  1. Name changes on Web Censors Prompt College To Consider Name Change · · Score: 1

It has been mentioned in Finnish media that some Americans (don't remember for sure what kind of authority it was) had suggested that Helsinki, the Finnish capitol, should change it name. You know - Helsinki, sinkin' in Hell. Not to mention that the city's Internet domain name is hel.fi.

But there are certainly some quite hilarious town names in US too and hey, if it's not funny in English, it's probably either really vulgar or just silly in some other language...

  2. Re:They mispronounced Linus as well on Linux on Jeopardy · · Score: 3

If I wanted to provocate heated arguing, I would say that is just so typical American attitude.

But I am not saying that, I am just saying that at least here in Finland (where Linus is from, too) we usually pronounce names like they should be pronounced in their own language. I pronounce American names American way (as well as I can, of course) and Swedish names Swedish way and so on.

Linus is, in this case, Finnish name, so Finnish pronounciation would be preferred if you are being considerate.

  3. Re:Unmetered local calls. on ISP War in the UK · · Score: 1

I live in Finland and the bi-monthly phone bill of my own line is something like 500 FIM (almost 100$) and I never call long-distance from that number...

Local calls cost something like 1 cent/minute or something like that. You all should be happy to be able to call free...
