Infringement happens when linking occurs, nothing limits distribution prior to that as they are separate parts. After linking of an incompatible binary with a GPL library you cannot distribute the GPL library, you can still distribute your useless application separately.
Nobody should be so naive to think that the Chinese government are more advanced at spying than other countries, or where the snowden revelations just a nightmare a dreamed...
The purpose of democracy is to hold our leaders to account. Snowdens revelations enabled that to happen for short time.
Our leaders create secret organisations that operate at arms length from them, but it doesnt mean they arent responsible for the actions they undertake. Snowden shone a spotlight on a secret organisation, the secret organisation hate it because they dont benefit from accountability, leaders hate it because its something they dont have control of which they should be judged for.
Best tool for the job in the long term is the one you understand, trust and maintainer yourself if need be.
In the short term there may be closed source tools that are better, but be aware you are you are giving some control of you operations to a third party, both financial and security. Your are choosing to give up your independence. Dark side, leads to, it does.
Unfortunately Snowdon is branded a traitor by half your country
Not my country... besides, snowdens is a better quote than Franklin's in our current political climate where governments have made people afraid of liberty.
And its not possible to reach everyone, people who wont allow themselves to open their eyes wont be moved by any words, its the moderates that can be influenced.
"Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say," - Edward Snowden
If you simulate the universe your a part of, you have to simulate yourself, and your simulation, and your simulation of the universe in the simulation has to have its own simulation of the universe... 'it's turtles all the way down'.
To be able to do the highest simulation you first have to predict everything, which means measuring everything. How do you measure everything in a universe at once, i should have said destroy, but to measure the universe is to change the universe.
So you would end up trying to simulate a universe that existed before your tried to simulate it, recursively.
Someone who loves science and hates philosophy so much really should use his inside voice when speaking about such things.
And if the universe will be perfectly, or near-perfectly, simulated at some point
Thats his problem right there, you cant simulate a universe without changing it (or destroying it?), so you have a recursive problem. Or consider the energy use. Im sure there are other ways to poke holes in his attention seeking headline.
No, i look forward to SCO suing microsoft as well, because they might have ported linux kernel code into windows as the screenshots of Microsoft/GNU/Linux BASH show.
Hackers shouldn't influence votes any more than the wealthy should
What about the media, or lobbyists, or famous people, they shouldnt influence votes either i guess... everyone should vote based on truth rather perception. But democracy has never been like that, its never been a magic solution to select leaders, its just better than the alternatives.
Politics is all about influencing people, hackers have just as much right as anyone else to try and influence others.
Sounds like you have a lot in common with Anonymous, your driven by vengeance. you value vengeance more than democracy.
But im not sure i believe you that you where only considering voting for him, it sounds like you are trying to justify a decision you had already made. You shouldnt have to do that, but, whatever helps you sleep at night.
Hamming codes provide error correction, but its not really sending out the same data twice. It can correct small isolated errors. It does require a buffer, but not a large one.
I dont agree with some of the results of their work. But "quietly" doing something isnt an option for their style of organisation, which is basically an angry mob.
They need to get the word out and fire people up to have an effect.
There is talk by "experts" that hating Donald Drumpf only makes him more popular, but thats a pretty lame excuse, it wont scale. All the angry outsiders who are going to support him probably already do.

Adding a backdoor, or redirecting it ?

The deciding factor is whether or not the software will let you accomplish your goals
In what timeframe ?
Perhaps i should have bolded long term, because sometimes the best tool for the job in the short term is not the best in the long term.

You need to stop acting like a one size fits all solution is the only way forward.

The common sense one
Well, he did say a 'perfect or near-perfect simulation', which is why i think he is talking about something of equal or near-equal complexity.
If you simulate the universe your a part of, you have to simulate yourself, and your simulation, and your simulation of the universe in the simulation has to have its own simulation of the universe... 'it's turtles all the way down'.

So you would end up trying to simulate a universe that existed before your tried to simulate it, recursively.
And he says its 'Very Likely'

A story about probable corrupt practices and conspiracy to defraud by thousands of powerful organisations going back to 1970.
And your concerned about the bias in the summary on one of thousands of sites linking to it.... priorities, my friend.
Nothing is idiotic on April fools day, apparently

Free and open source software can be _used_ for any purpose, good or evil.
Sure we can acknowledge the good that is done, but lets not forget the evil its used for.
If there was an ethical licence, it would not be considered free or open, unfortunately.
Trust in open source is based on quality.
Trust in business is based on quantity.

You may not like the methods Anonymous use to send their message, but they are sending a message.
DDos should be legal but regulated, like meatspace protests.

It should not use much of your battery, it doesnt have to transmit AFAIK.

Rallying the opposition is a good strategy now.
Free speech is a good thing, but that doesnt mean one person has to quietly listen to every fool who walks by.
