Who the hell said we shouldn't be critical of the US government? I think it's pretty well established that at least a good portion of slashdot certainly is.
Being critical of the Chinese government does not preclude being critical of our own as well.
Knock this shit off and mods, wise the fuck up. Just because it has "open" in the name doesn't make it suddenly good and benevolent, They do the exact same fucking thing.
Anyone who's been on slashdot for more than a week or two probably has seen dozens of comments suggesting OpenDNS in cases like this, always modded up. Every single time people post corrections pointing out that they do the same thing. Does anyone ever listen?
Wow. That has absolutely nothing to do with X and everything to do with what you are asking X to display. Should I call MacOSX ugly because one time I opened up goatse on a mac?
I'm no window fan (and surely haven't been drinking any microsoft kool-aid...) so I don't really know much about NTFS, but surely NTFS is a journaled FS which should make it substantially better than FAT right there?
Why is this modded funny? Unfortunetly many school libraries only get one or two copies of each textbook and do not allow students to remove them from the building, no matter what.
If the shit got thick enough to warrent a guerilla network of this complexity then I'd say you should be happy enough with something that only works during the day, it'd surely be an improvement.
That only applies to the rather limited "individual" context. For the species as a whole reproduction is as necessary to survival as eating or breathing.
They still might be used (hell, I was using them until about 3 years ago for small file transfers) but the format is, for all intents and purposes, dead. To the best of my knowledge nobody still manafactures them, nobody still distributes on them, and computers haven't been built with the drives for years.
To make a bad aircraft analogy, airships are dead, even though Goodyear still floats a few semi-rigid ones around.
You managed to buy that disk for only $9 because the format is dead. That's like me saying VHS is better because I can pick up tons of cassettes for pennies at yardsales.
Well for starters I can't multitask, build and run my own applications (without jumping through hoops), run non-Apple approved software, etc...
Sure for the tasks phones are normally expected to do it might be great but you really can't expect to reasonably lock down a computer to the same degree and be left with something acceptable.
Or is it just that your only technical qualifications are an MSCE and, feeling self-concious and unsecure about this, you need to troll for microsoft to give yourself a feeling of job security?
Sure you can. The reasons why these viruses and bugs are a greater problem for windows are debatable and irrelevant. It doesn't really matter if it's because of their massive market share, it still costs the user to clean up just the same. We are not trying to be fair, just realistic.
Perhaps they've seen wreckage where it was evident that's what happened.
Nevertheless it's a tradition deeply engrained in slashdot culture.
In other words, you must be new here.
Actually I only used the word "fuck" three seperate times, in three seperate sentences.
If you are offended by someone on the internet using a little light profanity then I kindly suggest that you fuck off.

I love how comments with good points that make mods feel uncomfortable receive "flamebait" moderations.
People still care about second life? Amazing.

Thanks for proving the GP's point.
Yeah. I'm beginning to get the feeling that all of these people railling against X11 have very little clue what they are really talking about.
No, you didn't say portable. What you said was "across browsers and OSs." which to any reasonable individual is read to mean "portable".
Don't worry. Something tells me you're not quite the target audiance at this point ;)
I think portability should be pretty low on your list of reasons to use a proprietary browser plugin.

And it's a hell of a lot better than the drivel they call music these days...

Something about comparing FreeDOS (or any other DOS for that matter) to vinyl just makes my head hurt...

As long as you can get the data off of the media, and onto a computer the format will never really die.
I have data that started off on floppy drives still hanging around my harddrive. Would you be willing to indicate that format never died as well?
Really the ability to rip the data off of media has nothing to do with how "alive or dead" a format is.
You managed to buy that disk for only $9 because the format is dead. That's like me saying VHS is better because I can pick up tons of cassettes for pennies at yardsales.
Agreed, don't most organizations already attempt to do basically that though? Where exacly is the failure point?
Well for starters I can't multitask, build and run my own applications (without jumping through hoops), run non-Apple approved software, etc...

So how much does Balmer pay you to troll here?

You cannot use viruses/bugs as an example of cost
