While I'm not entirely against formation of a police state, the whole discussion reminds me loosely of a roleplaying game called Paranoia where "I have nothing to hide" except that when I thing about it, I'm actually a commie mutant traitor, so buying into the "I have nothing to hide" philosophy because it is the popular choice is actually going to get me shot.
I have nothing to hide, true, but I do. Just like everyone. The laws are there to create a semblance of order, but ultimately that order is based on people's acceptance of it. Considering the way otherwise honest people duplicate MP3's illegally, you have to consider that virtually everyone has something to hide.
Oh well. Would be asking alot for the economy to support the way people actually act so honest people weren't getting the shaft. But then again, that would take a police state for the offenders.
I keep hearing that Microsoft's upgrades are basically trash. Our shop is running Microsoft and we have been running Software Assurance so we upgrade every time. The changes are subtle, yes, but I've upgraded at home every step of the way after seeing the massive benefits here at work.
I mean, I remember some really basic stuff like how in 95/98 it was so much damned work to set up new hardware. Networking was a pain in the ass. Then comes ME and despite its problems, all the sudden I had real plug and play functionality. XP brought in a ton of new features with networking, allowing me to control all sorts of devices remotely, including hijacking user's machines to do fixes. Not only that but XP rarely burps and never blue screens.
This stuff is huge for IT departments and it would take a serious departure from reality or perhaps a course in idiotic "damn the man" ideology to not see the benefits Microsoft is putting out there for you. Ignorance has to be what causes most of the complaints.
Then again, Linux users, you get what you pay for. You wouldn't know it if you hadn't paid for and tried to learn the software.
It is really quite simple. TIVO has a better UI than the other recorders out there. However, seeing as they aren't helpful to me at all in upgrading the system to something compatiable with my receiver, I kind of wonder what the point is. I am servicing a phone line for my Tivo 1 unit, which amounts to some $30 a month in this small town. I cancel the line, get the recorder from Dish Network, and save $20 a month, and add several GB's a space. Sounds like a win/win.
I do prefer the TIVO though and that is why I haven't made the switch.
It is time to implement the automatic transport system. Cars are a device of a forgotten age. Instead you will tell your computer room to drive to your friend's house. The room will disconnect from your home. I will then drive to your friend's house where it will connect with a tube (a docking station). The whole system will be controlled by Microsoft and be powered by penguin feces.
A resounding DUH but they own the game. If you don't like how they run it, cancel your subscription. That's just what we need, more n00bs crying because they are too stupid to realize they should change games.
I don't particularly like the fact that on MMO's I have to play with kids but that said, as soon as some game comes out with an adults only server, I'll be there. I'd happily pay an extra fee to have a mature audience to play with. There's a whole group of gamers out there looking for the same thing but the marketers are not seeing it.
Other thing is MMO's that allow you to combine groups. I often play with my wife and in order to get a group, we have to split our group or lead. That makes no sense. You might have 100 groups of 3 floating around that could be 50 groups of 6. That = players not playing. Bad move MMOs!
Let's replace Lucas with an android. That way there will be more Star Wars movies, plus they might make sense (logic and all). Plus, robots hate George Lucas.
