Oh! Finally an article that follows slashdot's standards!
I was getting tired of all that carefully laid-out logical arguments and clear reasoning.
Nothing like reading an insult followed by a highly personal account of the facts that is deemed relevant by the poster because it supports with his/her ideas.

If you are robbed you are going to call the police instead of seeking justice by yourself with a gun, aren't you?

This story only serves to show the superiority of the Soviet System. I remember seeing the resume of my former Russian language teacher's wife, She had come to Brazil after marrying him, and under the Education section of her resume I saw amazing things like
    "-Moscow's Public School #5."
So, in soviet russia, marks trade you... or trade marks you... fsck! whatever!

I always thought that cowardice is a crucial personality trait on most criminals. Now I've found some anedoctal evidence. I live in one of the most violent cities of the world, Rio de Janeiro, and has never being robbed or even harassed by a criminal, because of course they prefer to confront old ladies and seniors.
So, you want your silence and you commit a federal crime to get the thing you think you deserve, right?
I really hope you live in a jurisdction that have pretty stringent gun regulations.

What matters is what the judges will say based on that law.

What is funny in your comment, and that this proposal, on its original form would be another restraint on free press, and thus, in the long range would increase the chance of more unjust and unfair laws being passed without a single complaint.

I Agree, and I think that as Schumpeter has sadly predicted (or sort of) it's unavoidable.
So, let's see this on the bright side:
    - No more Eminem
    - No more problems with obesity (it's hard to get obese with socialist-style supermarkets, unless, of course you are a high head in the Party)
    - Plenty of space on even the most crowded highways.
    - Your daughters will learn to play oboe instead of listening to Britney Spears

Of course, I will have to burn all my Rush's CDs, and that books are going to help me keep warm for a few winter also. But, as I said, it's unavoidable.
