It's a fine idea to study programming/IT even if you end up not actually practicing it in the future. You'll make a better architect, project manager, sales person, whatever. Study what interests you. As previous posts mention, combine that with foreign language and you've got a promising future as the economic playing field levels out. This subject always brings out the best and worst in people. There are going to be new opportunities as the landscape changes.
