Some students got suspended from Tufts University for offending Islam in the conservative student magazine. The offensive remarks were all quotes from the Koran.
I got banned from posting comments on the web site of a conservative newspaper for mentioning that the Koran says that virtuous men go to heaven and get waited on by naked little boys.
Free speech is under attack from both sides of the political spectrum in the US.
(BTW, I am a theofalliblist. We believe that God is all-powerful and all-good, and the only reason there is evil and suffering in the world is because he makes a lot of mistakes. E.g., he created AIDS accidentally when he tried to stop a drought in Africa.)
Wasn't it Barney Frank and Barack Obama who voted against the bill McCain introduced into 2005 to stop Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from backing any more subprime mortgages, because it was bound to lead to a collapse? (That is a financial collapse, not actual building collapses, like all that public housing that was built by donors to and legal clients of Obama in Chicago.)
This is the type of argument, regulation good, all regulation good; regulation bad, all regulation bad. We need free markets. Free markets need regulation, but only the right type of regulation, to keep them free.
BTW, I definitely do want a tiered system. I'm not multimedia freak. I don't think I should have pay the same price as people who 200 times the bandwidth that I use. You don't think that if you eat twice as much as me, that you should have to pay twice as much me for your dinner?
Right on! Caffeine is NOT a source of energy. It's a drug. It stimulates your nervous system, but in the long run does not improve alertness. In moderation it's fine (1-2 cups a day). But if you really can't function without it (after a suitable withdrawal period), you might have AD/HD. See a doctor (and not a GP).
To improve alertness, get at least 30-60 minutes of exercise a day. Walking fast is good enough. You don't have to build up a sweat or join an expensive health club. You'll be more tired for just a few weeks until you adjust, but in the not very long run, exercise makes you feel more energenic and alert. Also, get adequate sleep. That's the other of the 2 big factors.
Recent studies show that sweet drinks do not satisfy your hunger for calories. Giving up sweet drinks has made many people lose weight.
I drink mineral water, not because it's any healthier than regular water, but because it's tastier. I drink regular water too, when I feeling just really thirsty. I get my caffeine from a cup of plain black tea (no milk, no sugar). It won't take long to get used to no sugar. The less sugar you eat and drink, the less it takes for something to taste sweet. Your taste buds adapt quickly.
My favorite brand of mineral water is Gerolsteiner. It's the cheapest brand where I usually shop. At Trader Joe's it's even cheaper!
