Just another reason for me to boy-cott MySpace. I cancelled my account there and now, it seems like I have very good reason to say, "For Security reasons." For all I know, my current employer could have been reading my blogs there. It doesn't matter anymore, no longer a member at MySpace.
I would love to by an OS-less laptop so I don't have to worrying about wiping out the Windows portion of the harddrive. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that there will be people who won't pay attention to the details and buy the cheapest computer, without even knowing that they just bought an OS-less computer.
I tell you what though, I like the idea of the law to pass to sell OS-less computers, but consumers would have to get use to asking, "Does it comes with Windows?" A good majority of the people who own computers (just talking about the average computer user, not geeks/nerds like me) won't even know what "Linux" is. I even had a guy look at my Linux shirt and asked me if it was an air conditioning company (Lenox, obviously).
I would have to agree. Seems like in a Microsoft-driven world, people will go out and buy Windows XP or Windows Vista. Even with the WGA in place, people would still buy Windows. I'm all pro-Linux myself, but I still use a Microsoft OS at home. I would like to see Linux take their fair share in the desktop market, but I don't think it will happen with Microsoft dominating the market. Plus, users are too familiar with Windows and are a little hesitant to switch to Linux.
Man, no wonder I said that I would never buy a cell phone... then again, a lot of things that I said I wouldn't buy, I end up buying, including my cell phone. I cannot even hear my cell phone's loud speaker if I'm driving. I might as well hang up the whole cell phone thing. Ah well, life without phones... what is that like?
You know... it would have been nice to have when I moved into my apartment. Although I never figured why for the past three months my wireless wasn't working on Channel 6, I changed it to Channel 10 and all of a sudden my Wireless network works fine now... unless I use my microwave, that's another story.
Since identity theft is a problem, the cause of the problem would be carelessness. That was the second company I have heard of that haven't been practicing good security. Now, coincidentally, a company that I was workng for (not naming any names), just took their shread pile (full of social security numbers, names, addresses, and probably phone numbers) and put it outside in broad day-light! Now, to make the situation worse, the containers were clearly marked as a certain type of form (if I mention the form type, I'm pretty sure someone would be able to figure out where I was working). Now, to put icing on the cake, I saw one of the sheet of paper that had a Social Security Number clearly marked, like the boxes, in broad daylight.
Now, something interesting to point out. Although the building is equiped with a eye scanner and doors that are always locked (obviously you would have to call the company to get in, or have your eyes scanned to see if you are allowed in the building) and the building is full of cameras, it doesn't stop someone from making a moronic mistake like that. I would be very surprised if that company wouldn't be sued for identity theft.
I guess that I'll be ok. Not too sure though. I got the "NoScript" extension for FireFox. Hopefully, I can say, "How can it infect me when the script is blocked in the beginning?"

Don't forget about the guy shaving! I actually saw a guy driving and shaving at the same time before. That was interesting.

Congradulations to the winner. I saw the preview, and I'm looking forward to the new Slashdot design!
