Most mathematics "educators" teach by rote. You do this to get this result and this is the proof. They never once actually explain WHY that is. They do not abstract and show the real world functions beyond the abacus used to teach toddlers. (They still make those, yes?) For instance, percentages are really damned easy if you figure out a single percent and then add/subtract that to find your total. You tell someone to get 53% of 500 and they will look at you as if you are daft. You should be able to do this in your head.

I *do* have my Ph.D and it is in Applied Mathematics. I would say that this makes me a pretty good judge but that is an appeal to authority. Take it as you wish. I did not like maths until I had a teacher who showed the concepts instead of just giving rote memory instructions.

The last paragraph is my expectation. I do understand the merits of your argument and agree that you have a probability of being correct. I do not agree that your argument is more probable than my own because, frankly, we are human beings and have a history of being human beings. Expecting that to change is silly. We have had many changes made already and throughout all of them we have maintained very little other than human nature. I do not expect this to change while we can still be classified as Homo Sapien Sapian. I think it naive to expect otherwise but do agree that there is a probability, however low, that you are correct.

You may, and I encourage you to do so, think the best for the future and believe in a quasi Utopian society. I do not see this as being viable and there are no quantifiable metrics to prove anything other than probability. I humbly submit the entirety of human history. We have not now, nor will we ever, remove the differences between the haves and the have-nots. That is my submission and reasoning.

I disagree entirely. I think you *should* know how a car operates, not how to fix it unless that floats your boat, before operating it. I think that should include a working knowledge of the mechanics so that you are able to give a safety baseline before operation. I think you should know how to use a computer before you start installing third party applications. Even the very first phones required learning how to use them properly. Nobody is asking them to understand phone switching - we are just insisting that good practice is going to be continued regardless of stupid users.

If you use Windows and install an application that makes registry changes do you expect those changes to revert when you uninstall the application? Of course not. If I install phpMyAdmin to make some changes to a MySQL database and then remove it in favor of installing a different application I sure as hell do not want it making changes to the database when I remove the files.

The user failing to understand the device is not the problem of the developer. There are ways that this could be changed but there is no blame here other than that which goes on the user for not controlling their own computer. If you do not know how to use a tool then do not use it until you are competent to do so. This is *not* a difficult rule to follow. Expecting this to change is absurd.

A lawyer can give advice and representation for free. A non-lawyer can not charge for legal representation services though. I am a little fluent in law procedure (which is actually the important part) and have represented many friends and family in court to some extent. I have spoken with DAs and have been in judge's chambers on other people's behalf. A lawyer can obviously offer free legal advice - it comes with consequences potentially but they can. They do pro bono work all the time. Depending on the nature of their advice they may be interpreted as having some restrictions as they may now have an attorney/client relationship but that is stretching it and a judge is likely to smack down any such interpretation by the state (or opposing party's) representative. The text is often seen as a way to avoid complexity and liability - it does not preclude anything like advice or their interpretations of how one might argue the appropriate laws.

There may be some niggling details that I have left out. It is impossible to cover all the variables which is what makes law so interesting. You can almost always appeal to the judge to argue the procedure if you feel it is in violation of the spirit of the law, for example. Your judge does not have to allow such but you are free to submit your interpretation and request a hearing. It is kind of interesting and it is actually the professional obligation of a lawyer to be an argumentative jackass.

When I hire a lawyer I do not do so because I want them to represent me - I have a right to have them do that on my behalf. Instead I hire them to advise me and speak on my own behalf up to and including requesting that the judge ask me personally instead of directing questions at my council.

I dunno... It seems unlikely - given history. I would expect something along the lines of a replicator that could only replicate things smaller than itself - and I am even envisioning something that will replicate at the atomic level so would not need input resources. It would also self-destruct if opened. It would also get its information from another source - streamed "recipes" would be the method. Now, could one program their own replicator? Probably. Will they have the resources to get that far? I do not know.

It seems likely that there is a potential outcome that is good. Now, achieving that goodness is possible but unlikely. It is not something I expect to happen given the nature of humans.

This does not, of course, mean you are wrong. It just means that I expect a different outcome. My outcome could, eventually, transition to your views. I think your views could easily end up resulting in my own as well after a period of time has passed. I also expect there will be a "Luddite" sect who resemble the Amish of today.
