Expecting the poles to do a long over due reversal and a magnetic anomaly turns up in the SOUTH pacific.
Or could it be that we're extracting all the magnetic materials out of the surface layers of the earth, so exposing lesser fields from the core. 1800's, industrial revolution, coincidence?
