hahaa, no FireSromZ, im not taking the extreme view here, do you have the ground realities from areas around afghanistan from before and after the war on terror? i do! first hand! before the war had started, there were loads of afghans in pakistan from the soviet era but they were mostly laborers or petty criminals (most were unregistered aliens but since theyd been in the country for well over a decade, most could even speak the local language and since they look like people from pakistan, you couldnt tell if they were afghan or not) . After the war started, taliban from afghanistan spilled all over the place, Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan etc! Since Pakistan sided with the coalition against terrorism, these taliban decided that Pakistanis deserved 'divine retribution' and there have been loads of suicide bombings and oh please, don't bother with something like better border security and all because the border is not only immense, the terrain is hilly and it presents an even tougher problem than the US-Mexico border which is not completely sealed off either! Now i am not entirely sure if bombing civilians 'accidentally' will construe an act of war crimes or not if it were tried in the international court of justice (not talking about america or anyone else in particular), i know one thing, if the northern alliance were covertly assisted and everyone else (US, NATO, Pakistan, etc) had 'apparently' stayed out of the whole thing, the afghans would have beaten the hell out of each other and a whole load of lives would have been saved (the afghans are killing each other despite the foreign involvement so we'd stick to non-afghan lives here)! do we disagree over this?

uhuh, i just gave an example that the us has been involved in espionage when i gave the iran example...
time tables and objectives? yes, as i said before, if the objective was to destroy american image, it was completed in record time! oh wait...the objective was to capture ob laden? ooops...
oh what did you say? the objective was to liberate the afghan people? errrr isnt that exactly what the objective was during the 1970s, 80s till 91 as well??
btw, although the operation started in the 70s, it went on during the 80s and it was completed in 1991 (december 1991, ussr was dissolved!) and back then, just like now, it was not only the us who were doing it, it was a coalition of nations although, just like now, it was the us leading the entire operation...the difference being, back then the us govt actually planned!!

and no, i dont think that 'the US is the most evil nation in history', every nation is evil in one way or another, i just believe the bush administration did a superb job...if the job was to turn the world opinion against america! which in short means they are amongst the worst governments i can think off...

hahaa, im stayin thanks a lot for the advise tho...oh and correct me if I am wrong but assasinations are also a part of espionage so why not just blast ob laden instead of goin on an all out war and lets stop pretending that it was just supportin the northern alliance coz that is not how you support people...remember the 80s and early 90s? the cold war...afghanistan...ussr...american support...rings a bell? now that was a well thought out operation where the us attained their objective and didnt even openly intervene...can you disagree? so tell me this...why not just 'support' the northern alliance? why make a whole bloody mess out of something that had already been done to perfection in the past by the same group?

In a nation where you can be summarily killed for being a literate woman, or listening to the wrong music, to foster a revolution.
first off corrections: according to taliban, music is wrong...they dont classify what sort of music it is, its just wrong... second...who wanted a revolution? who cares what they were doin as long as it remained INSIDE the afghan borders...ob laden is a suspected terrorist, agreed, now after all the death and destruction, where is he? so yes, i would maintain that it would have been better to risk the lives of a few northern alliance people to carry out an extraction mission while supplyin their group with modern weapons to kick taliban a$$...sounds straightforward enough, no?

    Hey FireStormZ,

Ever heard of the term espionage? And please don't tell me that thats agaisnt the law since it has never stopped the US (or anyone else for that matter) from using it! Here is an example of how the US carried out a coup d'etat in Iran in 1953, the operation is referred to as Operation Ajax and although it was deemed a success at the time it was carried out, it is now considered a disaster!
So then what was the point of going into Afghanistan with guns blazing and all? What do you think has the death toll been? (not talking about the Afghans only, think about the US and NATO soldiers too)...wouldn't it all have been cleaner (and easier) to just carry out a well thought out espionage mission? I guess it would have saved a load of lives and heh, you do realize that the war is going to accelerate the global warming issues, what with all the missiles and jets and bombs, it is bound to do that, no?

im a computing student and the other day a friend from university called and asked me for instructions as to how to install xp, apparently he could not understand the partitioning and formatting process coz it was the first time he was doing it! Similarly, when you install linux for the first time, it seems more difficult than it actually is! I am using Kubuntu 8.04 at the moment and a couple of days ago I installed Suse 11 just to test it out on a seperate partition, the installation of both is pretty straight forward, you can either choose to install a basic system without having to look at any extra packages or you could manually select what you wanted to install depending on you...and the partitioning system is pretty much straight forward as well...i remember 3 or 4 years ago when i used slackware, everything used to be command line based and compared to windows the installation did seem more difficult, now? id say its easier if anything!

well folks, heres the thing, i got a 20mbps broadband connection from virgin media...

now, i know that downloading music and movies and all can be illegal if i dont pay for it but heres a few things that one can do and there would be nothing at all illegal about them and people can consume the bandwidth they are paying for...

    A) start downloading:
1- linux distributions (choose any, download it from that nice torrent and IF you have any time, install it in a vm or through xen (if u dont have time today, you can always delete it and download it again tomorow)) (this is a recursive process with the base condition bein virgin media stoppin bandwidth policing)
2- download alpha, beta and final versions of open source softwares like open office, xen, umbrello, qt, compiz, open arena, alien arena, glest etc, who knows, you might bump into some new software that you never tried before and you totally fall in love with it...(try glest, its a real time strategy game and the graphics are pretty extremely neat)
    B) youtube is legal then why do we need to download our music in the first place (A)?
    C) start playing open source fps games like alien arena and open arena online....

id like to see virgin stop me from doin this, theres nothin at all illegal about any of this and if virgin does not want me to do this.... so bad for them! i m goin to try my best to claim my moneys worth by utilizing the 20mbps that im paying for!!!!
