    AJAX and DHTML are already being utilized to produce Traditional GUIs in Web Applications.

    APhPLIX allows the development of sophisticated web applications with traditional GUIs. Using APhPLIX development studio (GPL licenced), database driven web applications can be built in minutes.

    A lot of people seem to get stuck on the web browser mentality, but with the use of AJAX and DHTML web browsers can be used to run desktop style applications.

    APhPLIX is a toolkit for building Ajax web applications with a traditional GUI.
    It comes with a visual development studio web application for point and click application development, and it's all open source.

    I think there may be some similar proprietary products, but I don't think there are any other open source projects like it.
