I know an individual who started a web development business from his home just about a year ago. He has done fairly well (small business market). I asked him how he built his business up so quickly. He said in the small business market the customers are concerned about getting results quickly and on budget. By quickly, he means under 3-4 weeks for full site development. I will admit, sometimes the code produced by the tools can sometimes be clunky, it functions perfectly.
I had a chance to look at some of the development tools he uses. NetObjects Fusion, Adobe Photoshop, and a slew of predeveloped frameworks like osCommerce. I think that he may have actually found the key to having a good business by focusing on a smaller market, select frameworks, and by heavily using open source projects.
