justa quicky observation ... most of the people who are intelligent to be slash dotting (and i think that's intelligent) are also intelligent enough to have a healthy skepticism of the way the national media intends to influence public opinion and awareness ... impassioned letters like yours are also important ... we do have some intelligent media also ... that serves the purpose that you intended in your letter ... the sad thing is that there's this mainstream/majority mind thing that may be truly formed by national media stories ... seems the decentralization of networks is good but then again, if the same folks own all the media, o well ... skepticism and finding out for ourselves is the only way ...

your feedback seems right on to me ... and another thing that americans forget about the consciousness of chinese people is there this is a feeling of brotherhood and common humanity ... of family and respect for ancestors ... this is also famous among many of us who have never set foot in china ... perhaps we have had friends from china or we have done some reading ... one of our spiritual psychics (edgar cayce) said in 1945 that america is supposed to take up the burden of the universal brotherhood of man (mankind including women i asset) ... and that if america fails, this burden will fall to the asian nations ...

so your feedback is all very valid and thank you ... i would like to say that if your friends in china are eating too much american food you are going to start having more fat people and more heart attacks and more high cholesterol and more high blood pressure ... maybe while we take care of our problems, you should be careful about getting changed by some of them too ...

o yes, i wrote to say that america pushing linux as hard as america pushes democracy is not likely ... not at all ... might do linux more good in the long run ...

Wow this is so well written and right on ... I mean fascinating and I appreciate your putting in perspective the way the marketplace has changed while the court has been hearing these arguments ... it is true there's more competition to the giant than the judge recognized, BUT if the buyers don't know much about how to use and integrate the alternatives, how competitive can the alternatives be ... so the judge is right and wrong on that ...
his explanation of the disincentives to switch explains exactly the situation where I work ... bringing in Linux and StarOffice to try to change what we do with Windows/MSOffice locking up and crashing and never really delivering before a new bad edition arrives for all those dollars and buy a new machine ... MS has had a lock on businesses for the most part ... some offices are lucky enough to have a Linux expert around who is catching the wave of the StarOffice release ... but that's still a pretty small part of the market ... whew ... great article ... great writing and perceiving ... thanx

i just think that MS has a lock on the popular business mind ... the aggregate general business mind ... i cannot get the folks in my work group to look at making a change even though we really cannot stand the way windows is working, or the costs of the upgrades, or being locked into buying more and more equipment for more and more space hogging non performing MS crapola ... so why cannot i influence them ... i am just learning how to do linux and star office myself and what is and isn't supported and how to do things ... looking at a workgroup locked into a consortium of work groups and if there's one single connectivity question i cannot answer, that's it ... no matter how many frigging times a day we are all locking up and finding MS anomalies as a practical consideration ... it is not that the products aren't available ... it's that there's the myth of being dependent ... that really IS a monopoly ... if people BELIEVE it is, it is ... they don't know how to read slash dot do they ... i am just learning that too ...
