i have noted that many people have mentioned Leonado and Michaelangelo. but i have not seen H.G Wells yet. He too was a visionary. Just read the Time Machine and you will see what i mean.
Considering it is the only non computer related book i have ever read other than Benchley's Jaws. i do hold some bias. =0)
And what about Gene Roddenbery? many og the small gadget on his "cerebral" Star Trek have came to fruition in one form or another. I believe they are now trying to create a transporter. He too is a true visionary. And perhaps even a geek!!
I agree!. Perhaps RedHat is becoming the system all *ix users despise with a passion.
I always interpreted the motives of the linux operating system as somewhat open with the allowance for sale and distribution being a good thing. But with the recent cash injections from major companies into RedHat, the whole system is going to crash and burn. The less fortunate distributions will bend to the competition or go "underground" while RedHat continues making money.
Sure its a great distribution but with the money it makes and the "brandname" software that it will soon support allows it more chance of getting the unfair advantage, much like drugs in an olympic event.
Smaller distributions like Debian and Slackware are the ones that will suffer and it will be sad to see something as great as the linux philosophy and its 8 year history be replaced with the values of the evil green.
Perhaps the Xml standard would create a new type of windows management standard that provides complete html interfaces and java(or python) support. integration of Dhtml and all the other *ml standards into the existing window managment software would simply be to much work. Im sure microsoft had the same idea with windows 98, but if they had started from scratch instead of altering bits and peices of the existing 95 code they would have had a killer system.
I to have just read the posting on the microsoft site and agree that linux needs some sort of motivational force that promotes all forms. I suggested this some time ago and was instantly shot down with comments like: "linux is getting enough positive press from magazines and the like". personally i dont agree. We need more positive press created by the users - Something im working on. As for the microsoft comments that show their views of the system, i think their just scared and trying to create a sort of propaganda (in australia i think its called negative business practices) anyway if these are in fact true points about the system microsoft has exposed its soft "underbelly" and allowed us to go in for the kill. All we need to do is exceed the "functions" microsoft deems unsuitable and promote the hell out of it. We wont get sued for monopolisation if it succeeds because we allow fair practice. Sure Im A Lemming! But Im A Lemming With Teeth!!
