I happen to like PHP, and I see it as a valuable language for the web. I do, however, think O'Reilly is trying to tell me something with their choice of mascot for the book. Instead of the typical animal analogy, they have chosen a beeny with a propeller. I'm pretty sure that is a kiddie hat only purchased at an amusement park. Perhaps the hat will evolve in subsequent editions moving to visor, baseball cap, driving cap, then cowboy hat. Isn't the cowboy the linux emblem for their series.
Anyway, I have digressed. I actually think it warrants another look!
