1) You can never have enough lan jacks in your own office. Plan at least 4. I don't know I just used them up..
2) Plan where you want your firewall, the garage in AZ is NOT the answer. A Centrally located closet with power works great. Plan the power!!
3) Get Cat5E in every room.
4) Put two dedicated CAT5 lines with a RG-59 (Cable) to your services panel (electrical / Cable) home input and route these to you hub / Firewall location.
5) Make sure your closet has two telephone jacks.
6) Don't forget the mulitmedia!! It should be considered equal to getting a lan set up (since the walls are open anyway)..
