At theseminar I was at a couple of months ago, this applied for the PIC18s (wich have their own optimized C compiler), and the DSPIC/PIC24s. If there are newer ones, I had not heard of them as yet.
Microchip has designed their latest micros around their compiler ( I think it is based on gnu c).. While not done Do {Compile, look for ways to optimize cpu or compiler};
