Planescape had some sequences like this - seeing as how you're immortal, dying can be used as quite a useful plot device or puzzle element! It does take a little while to get your head around dying on purpose though.
That's the advanced options menu - Shut Down and Lock (probably the most common options) are always visible just to the left of the arrow that pops up the advanced menu. Looks ok to me - most average users probably won't be using the advanced options a whole lot.
Because, if you read the article, you'd know that 24 people didn't work on the menu - it was 8 (which still seems too many to me!).
The figure of 24 is from the 8 shutdown menu people, 8 'shell' people (the whole start menu) and 8 kernel people.

As can be seen here, it's only 8 cameras in total for the whole force, just one on a helmet, so definitely no 360 degree viewing going on!
