As far as I can see, there is no "angst" between the hacker cores of Linux and *BSD. Don't confuse the narrow-minded "advocates" who regularly post to slashdot as being representative of either the Linux or the *BSD community.
The core members of each of the projects have acknowledged that the other projects are very useful resources, and they use ideas from each other regularly.
