I am constantly baffled by dumbass posts and possible liars but deffinite fakes. Dude I work at Best Buy, so let me break down what happened:
1. We don't keep dvds in cases like that.
2. The alarms go off on dvds all the time because of static or whatever, I dunno, but there is no RFID tag that we can turn on or off on DVDS.
3. The guy who didn't bother to look at your receipt, just took it to the counter to deactivate it - was he dressed in a yellow shit? or a white shirt?- in all likelyhood he was going over to his buddies to make fun of your stupid ass.
I'd hate to turn you into a freaked out, paranoid shut-in, but data aggregation is already a large part of the consumer industry. Up until about a week ago I was a cashier/salesman at Best Buy.
Now this is where it gets a little creepy:
When checking out a customer there are three three things you must always do:
1. Enter gender and phone number or scan/sign up for Reward Zone.
2. Sign up for a magazine subsription.
3. Sign up for a PRP/PSP (extended warranties on products).
Now the second one is relatively harmless and I'm not certain that Best Buy stores the information gathered there. The first and third however go directly into Best Buy's database. The reward zone card has all the standard info, phone number, address, the works, but with the phone number alone Best Buy can surveil all transactions associated with it. The PSP/PRPs contain all the same information as the reward zone.
Best Buy says they do this so that if someone forgets their receipt but gave their phone number they can print it out for them. But personally, I don't care why they're doing it, I don't want any of my private info getting out.
