  1. sillyness on All US Border Crossings Now Require A 'Terrorist Risk Profile' · · Score: 1

How wonderful that all the law abiding people of this country will be profiled now, simply because they dare to fly outside the us. Meanwhile the spineless idiots refuse to secure our southern or northern borders for "lack of money"

more than 100,000 people come across our southern border, and I would guess every single one of them is un-profiled. Meanwhile they will keep records on ME for 40 years.

    idiots.

And the real reason the southern border remains unprotected? Because the fat-cats of the united states love the cheap labor. Plain and simple. It's a matter of economics. If the large corporate farmers were required to pay a living wage to human harvesters, then they would make less money. So, they allow hundreds of thousands to pass un-checked through our border.

How safe are we when anyone can walk across our south border? But heaven forbid I take some Orange Juice on the plane with me.

Morons... Both dems and repubs spout security UNTIL it would cost their rich benefactors any inconvenience.

  2. vista is not even a beautiful woman on What Vista Is Really Like · · Score: 1

Vista is like a 1980's Porsche 911 whale tail. You take a beautiful form and add huge fiberglass wings that do nothing, huge fender flares that look horrid and do nothing but mess up the airflow over a beautiful body or put stupid goo gahs on the dash. Ugly white gauges, and fiberglass tail, that is Vista. Lots of, at first glance, beauty, if you are a company searching for Icing because you have no damn cake to offer. But when you take a look under the hood, it's just the same old thing, or even worse. You look at Vista and you think to yourself how much effort must have gone in to make things HARDER to understand. Fewer lables on buttons makes for new computer user problems. Icons so complex and so identical that you are reduced to HAVING TO READ the lable of the ICON so that you can find the PRINTERS folder in Control Panel. ICONS are supposed to be there so you DON'T have to read the lables of things. They are there so that you can scan a number of them and find the printers folder because it looks like a freaking printer, not like a picasso printer, and especially when all the other folders within control panel look the same enough that they no longer do the job that icons are supposed to do. Or how about I.E. 7 deciding that the menu bar is superfluous and so removing it is a good idea. So that if a person wants to print a selection of a web-page, and they can't figure out how to return their menu-bar, they are S.O.L. Microsoft fails to understand in Vista on a whole new level that hiding buttons and making icons complex, HURTS the end user. Especially people who are new to computers, those who you would like to have a good first experience enough that next time they come back to Windows. Those people call me, to figure out how the heck can they find the second printer on their network if they don't have 'file>print' anymore. I have to walk them through finding the Menu bar again. Stupid in spades. The idiots at MS assume that everyone has spent their life learning what the 'home page' icon looks like, so that they feel taking labels off things is ok. Well, everyone doesn't know what that icon looks like, because that icon has changed with every iteration of I.E. And every 'home' icon gets fuzzier, and blander and smaller with each iteration. It's getting to the point that they should just put words to replace icons, for all the good they do now. I work with newbie computer users, and there is nothing more frustrating to them than to take the computer out of the box, turn it on, but then not know how to turn the damn thing off because there is NO BUTTON MARKED "turn off computer" anymore. Sure this woman is pretty, but as with many pretty things, it's lost it's FUNCTION in the process of becoming beautiful. And that's the problem. Oh, I installed a vista machine on my network and it can see my network printer but thus far I haven't been able to get the printer installed on the vista machine (Vista can't connect) so I can print to it. I have worked for hours trying to figure out the issue. I have stopped all virus/internet protections, turned off all firewall stuff (I am picking straws now), I have gone to MS looking for answers to the cryptic error message I get from Vista. MS of course, doesn't recognize the error string as being anything they have ever told their machine to reply when trying to print to a printer. I have been to the printer manufacturers website hoping to find a Vista driver for this printer, and of course they say the printer will work fine with Vista in networked config. Thanks MS. Now I have to rethink the Vista upgrades I had planned until I can figure out if a winxp machine can print to a vista hosted printer, or if the various other op systems I bring into the classroom so my students can have a look, will print to a win Vista hosted printer. All I wanted to do was bring a few Vista machines into my current network, in an effort to upgrade the whole lot, but I get stymied with, up to this point, hours work trying to fix problems that shouldn't be problems. President bush has done the equivilent of crossing his fingers behind his back while signing 800 bills into law. He has absolved himself from having to follow these laws, and then goes in front of the public (as does the republican congress) applauding this or that new law knowing full well he has no intention of following it. One of these laws he has not agreed to follow, is a law stating that congress must be told about the people he is wiretapping, and they must be told about the people he arrests. He has absolved himself from following the geneva accords as well. Does anyone remember the Gulf War when 1000's of soldiers surrendered to American troops without putting up a fight. The reason they did this, is because we had the reputation as a country of treating our prisoners well. Ask yourself how many 18 year old American kids are going to die in the future because we no longer have that hard won over 200 years reputation. For sure that number will be many more than the number of people who died in 911. Of course it doesn't at all matter to president bush and his ilk. Wealthy people's children don't go to war. And just a question for all you Christians who support bush because you feel he is a god fearing man. Exactly how many people would Jesus torture. Exactly how many people would Jesus kill using torture. We have killed God knows how many people (bush won't say) and we have arrested and tortured God knows how many more in secret prisons around the world where bush can torture them with more ease, because our soldiers who ARE REALLY GOD FEARING and have some conscience, aren't in charge. bush gets up on his podium and crows about how many people he has released, but he fails to note that those he released were absolutely INNOCENT for Gods sake. Final note to all that read this. Once the president is allowed to ignore any law he decides is in his way, we are not anymore a Democracy, we are a kingdom. Scary, HUH?
