  1. Re:Go with logic on FCC Nixes Satellite Radio Merger · · Score: 1
Having had Sirius radio in my car for a year gratis, here is my $.02 worth:

    1. I never listen to Stern, that would cut into time that I could use to enjoy some good music.

    2. I rarely listen to CDs; the radio programming is interesting a varied.

    3. My car makes a great boombox.

    4. I paid for year #2, no qualms about it.

    5. It is very nice to be able to travel across the state and beyond and never have to change stations (or hunt for a station that has decent reception), unless I want to listen to a different channel.

Bottom line is that for me, satellite radio is well worth it. I would simply get the car I wanted, and not worry about which provider it was linked with. It's all good (except Stern and Oprah!)

  2. Re:"unprecedented" on Inhabited Island Vanishes Forever Underwater · · Score: 1
I agree. Look at New Orleans, for example. It sinks continually, regardless of whether there is a Democrat or a Republican in the White House, and has done so from it's beginnings. It would have been swallowed years ago, were it not for some of the biggest pumping stations on the planet. And it was once home to millions of people, and could be again if the location remains valuable enough to keep pumping dry (likely).

It is currently very fashionable in the world of politics to invent problems that don't exist and blame the opposition for not doing enough to resolve the non-existent problem. It's a modus operandi called the big lie: repeat it often enough and loudly enough and [some] people will believe it. Global warming just ain't much more than an alarmist "theory," it's not a fact or a given event that the planet is experiencing.

  3. Re:I would have said 'yes'...... on Can Linux Pick Up Users Abandoning Win98? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Similarly, I've found most older systems need additional RAM, even to upgrade from 98 to 2000, for example. But I've freed up a lot of my time from in-law and relative computer servicing by switching their old 98 and ME PCs to Mepis Linux. Once they learn what icons to punch to browse the web, do their email, and play majohng and solitaire, they tend to be happy. OpenOffice.org gives the compatibility with the MS Office apps that they need. I've done my last re-install of any MS OS.

  4. I Disagree on Myspace to Sell MP3s From Unsigned Bands · · Score: 2, Interesting

Just yesterday, my son (17) said that there still was music being made as good as classic rock, it's just that it is all underground by bands that no one has heard of. The kids are finding this stuff on MySpace and letting each other know about the good music...the word gets around. There are a lot of unsigned bands out there; it will all depend upon how good their music is. If they strike the right chord with other MySpace users, there is plenty of room to be successful in selling their wares.
