  1. Re:And that's why... on Voice Over IP Under Threat? · · Score: 1

exactly. i've thought that about a lot of security "threats" over the past few years. having been an avid computer user, photoshop freak, and amateur programmer for years, and never having had a virus EVER, i have to wonder how the situation can really be as bleak as these security companies make it out to be. i've been using VoIP frequently for over a year now, and exclusively for several months. works fine. no telemarketing so far.

  2. What about "Innocent until proven guilty?" on What is Proof of Music Ownership? · · Score: 1

Half my music (everything pre-iTunes) is ripped from Audio CDs that I threw away the day after I bought them, because I had the digital copies, and the other half I bought through iTunes Music Store, but have taken off the Digital Rights Management, making them normal AAC files. Assuming the iTunes Music Store servers, Gmail's servers, and all my local copies of email reciepts spontaneously combusted in unison and I was left with only my 1500 unlocked music files, I'd look hell of suspicious, but no one could do a single thing. People are innocent until proven guilty. That's why the millions of people who illegally downloaded stuff on Napster weren't each thrown in jail. No one could definitively prove all those people guilty. The law is really on the side of the buyers, not the RIAA IMHO.

  3. Re:Umm, good? on Sony Mylo Challenges Nokia 770 · · Score: 3, Interesting

Well, I don't think "no one wants" an internet tablet. I want it at least. My Palm Zire 72 and iPod both recently died. I was desperately looking to find a new device to unite the functions of my PDA, iPod, and phone anyway, so I wouldn't have to wear cargo pants or a messenger bag constantly just to carry all my electronics. The Nokia 770 is by far my "dream machine" and I'm buying one as soon as my next paycheck comes. It's $50 less than a Palm Zire equipped with WiFi, only $50 more than a video iPod, has 4 times the pixels and 4 times the internal memory of my Palm Zire, has immediate access to the 1.4Gb of mp4 videos and aac audio I already have saved online through gmail, send text messages or sms messages and talk to people for free without any kind of cell phone plan, plus the operating system isn't written by an evil monopoly.

As a graphic design student who needs the ability to draw, sketch, and show his digital artwork on the go, who would rather type than write notes for classes, who deeply distrusts cellular providers, and who has wireless internet coverage at school, work, home, and all his favorite hangout spots, I think the Nokia 770 is ideal.
