I was an English major in college. What piqued my interest in this was the fact that I could incorporate almost every other subject into writing, be it math, science, history, environmental sciences, just about any interest you have. Just for one example, I do a lot of Dean Koontz reading. I so wish I could write like him. The research that is needed for books that he writes has got to be phenomenal. He incorporates a lot of history, and yes, quantum physics, spirituality, law and humor. Many think he is just another suspense novelist, but there is far more to it than that. Even the DaVinci code required a knowledge of science, history, and art. I still do a lot of writing, blogs, and sometimes way-too-long forum entries;). My first love has always been English and to this day I remain the pain in the ass editor of news articles, constantly correcting errors. At least I don't do it with a red pen! Write about what you know or would like to know, you never stop learning. I'm 57 years young and you can imagine what a world the internet opened up for me when I bought my first computer 5 years ago. Even brought me here to Slashdot!
