Have you seen the size of the kernel source tree recently? (about 70M untarred)

I'm sure Linus would love to hear that the kernel is bloated and / or badly written.

    • *INTEGRATION WITH LDAP!*. I want PostGreSQL to be able to authenticate against a LDAP directory! This business of having both a Unix password, and a PostGreSQL password, is for the birds!

We're using a kerberized version of PostgreSQL 7.0 RC5, and previously kerberized 6.5.3.

Though kerberos support is mentioned in the docs, the actual code implements a very early proposed form of the kerberos V5 API. We've patched it to work against the latest version of MIT kerberos and submitted that patch back to the PostgreSQL developers. It works a treat. One password, one authentication interface. I reckon kerberos is far superior to LDAP.

  3. Vested Interests and honest journalists. on Jon Johansen on ABC World News Tonight · · Score: 1

Who owns ABC? Do they have large amounts of money invested in "protecting" the content of DVDs? Or is there a good chance of a reasonably two-sided approach to the story? I am vainly hoping for some decent journalism around this issue.

Thus the original title of the first movie will be resurrected: Jar Wars: A New Hopelessly One-Dimensional Character. This title was dropped for the aforementioned reasons, but is eminently suited to the gen PI special edition.

  5. Better solution already out there on Sound-producing LCD Screens · · Score: 1

There's already a transparent coating which you can put on LCD screens to make sound. British invention. Just got a What Hif-Fi innovation award. This sounds like trying to tune the bumps and rumbles of a car (US: automobile) instead of using a decent stereo. Might make for a cool performance instrument (anyone going to tell Jean-Michel Jarre?).
