Yeah, I remember a time once when I was a cop in Ohio.
I remember chasing this lady for 2 miles, lights on, 'chirping' the siren. Eventually when I just turned the siren on full blast for about 20 seconds ad she finally she decided to look into her mirror.
Oddly enough thats when she stopped. She had no clue I'd been following her for over a mile. Why? She was involved in an argument with her passenger, in this case her husband. Maybe that's why she was speeding 15 MPH over too.
"than those who don't use cell phones"
. . . And how many Americans really never use cell phones?
I see folks who can't afford an automobile or other things in life who have a cell phone. It is more important than cable in many cases.
As to "I happen to hold mine in front and use the loudspeaker but that's purely because I'm deaf in one ear and don't like not being able to hear anything else that's going on." I am sure everyone around you loves it when you get a phone call.:) Do I see a Jitterbug in your future? (sorry, couldn't resist). :)
Actually, that's a Michigan thing. *Anyone* under the age of 18 having sex with anyone is illegal, even another minor.
In Ohio (where I was a cop) 16 and above, you're in the clear. **Not that I've ever tried it** (felt disclaimer was necessary.)

"So in short the answer is that these name shortening services are not going to damage the web - provided the links they provide are permanent."
That'd be a bad idea - then I would have to route all of my outbound SMTP traffic through their servers or set up an alternate port on my mail servers so I could use my non-comcast email servers.
That would be counter productive for folks who don't use their mail servers. I understand the concept, just would make it harder to SMTP to your preferred servers. --jcrouse
Amen to that. I have quit using Maxtor drives entirely. In fact, I've basically switched to WD exclusively. It just wasn't worth the data loss on the end users' part and the time needed to replace something that should not need replacing on a twelve month rotation.

Fumble. Note to self - before publishing findings, test results first.

Who knows.
It doesn't take a cell phone to be distracted.

Are any links on the web truly permanent?
Isn't this old news? I remember reading about it a while back?

Not worth the pissing match I guess. Last time I checked plural possessive went after. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.
cheers.
That would depend on if your referring to just one netizen or multiple!
:)
(outside for more than one, inside for just one). LOL
