  1. Re:Keep up the good work on New Debian Project Leader · · Score: 2

With regards to the dependencyhandling, dare I mention *BSD and their portcollection, which does the same thing. Additionally, what I dislike about Debian is that their stable release is constantly out of date. I believe that the stable apache is currently version 1.3.9 or something in that vicinity. Rather annoying, and the sole reason why I switched from Debian to FreeBSD.

Indeed the world is, to some extent the same as it was 4 years ago. However, the Internet has actually changed quite a few things. For example, a significant portion of the budget for the 50 biggest economic entities have been tossed at the internet, enabling Internetpowered trading to grow at an extreme rate. This is not so much the case in the business to consumer area, as it is in the business to business area. Try taking a look at cisco, IBM, Hewlett Packard and a few of the big consultant companies. The Internet has made a significant difference to their business plans. However, I do agree that it's incredibly important to stay cool in the face of rapid change. As always, education is the way to go, even if the Internet does presume to offer easy money. But to say that the Internet has ment little or nothing, now that's just plain wrong.

    > the internet is only a medium of information > travel. By the same logic, someone should go > after the highway department eveytime somebody > uses the road to transport illegal drugs. That analogy is way of. Obviously you would want to sue the highway department if they did nothing to prevent the roads from being used as means in a crime. Like in all other cases, it's not just black and white. It's important to look at the individual incident, and pay attention things like negligence and lack of action.
