Re:Bad Idea
There's no point in debating you morons any more. The only real hope is to keep your bullshit from infecting someone else.
so:
It is instructive to look at tablet design before and after iPad [osxdaily.com]
The iPhone similarly challenged conventional wisdom and completely transformed cell phone design
A quick glance around Google will find a completely different set of cherry picked "before iPad/iPhone" and "after iPad/iPhone" images that show that, hey, their design isn't actually all that original. (Though, to be fair, so many Apple blogs have picked up these images that the ones making Apple look better are much easier to find) For instance, linked in one of the very first comments of your iPad story, is this. And then you have things like the LG Prada that you conveniently forget.
Similarly, did you know that Android has always been designed to run on a full touchscreen? Here's a bit of history to cure your ignorance. Added bonus is the bit about Google voluntarily withholding the pinch-zoom gesture at Apple's behest.

Re:The usual question:
Yes, I'm clearly going to immediately believe a random, uncited graphic that clearly has chosen specific old-looking tablets to make it's point
:)What about this graphic? Equally as valid, without further investigation.
A few dates, though. The first iPad came out in April, 2010. The HP Slate 500 was released in October, 2010. I seriously doubt the HP Slate 500's design was adjusted 6 months before hitting the shelves. Plus, it was at CES 2010 in January of 2010.
The JooJoo tablet came out BEFORE the iPad, as the image does accurately state, in March of 2010. So, who copied who again?

Re:Not-quite-objective summary
try this test: Write down a verbose description of the design, using as few actual measurements as possible. For the iPad, this would be something like "A rectangular platform with a glossy front surface. The front has a touch screen surrounded by a bezel roughly half an inch wide. There is a single concave button on a short side of the bezel with a picture of a house on it. The reverse is nondescript, with few markings except an Apple logo. In profile, the device has an overall flat appearance and curved edges, and is roughly a quarter of an inch thick." Now write one for the Galaxy Tab, and the 2001 tablet. Compare all three. If two descriptions are mostly the same (in meaning), the products are likely indistinguishable.
Funny, you should probably try that test with this or this or any one of these.

Re:Well, it depends
I see people keep posting that bit of propaganda take a look here http://www.2imgs.com/6c941c36e5 THe injunction that Apple got in the Netherlands was for a "Displaying thumbnails in a photo app" and that is software patent. not for patent a rectangle design patent which the judge thew out due to prior art. And prior art there is. Take a gander here.

Re:Not-quite-objective summary
Apple should have done that too Or is it ok to steal conecpts what about actual products?.
-
Re:How Many Times
How many times should Apple copy others designs before before people finally recognize that yes, Apple are, in fact, copying other people's concepts.

Re:rectangles
Your point being?
Have a look here and tell me how much did ipad release "change" tablets::

Re:Not allowed to look closely?
If you took ANY pre-iPad tablet and tried to tell the difference, it would be simple.
Any pre-iPad tablet? Nonsense!
http://www.2imgs.com/6c941c36e5
Take a look at these three pre-iPad tablets: JooJoo, HP Slate and CrunchPad. They look like iPad "clones" to me. It's astonishing that they were displayed before the iPad was announced. They must have a time machine that can steal Apples designs from the future!

Re:Big whoop
Try this: http://www.2imgs.com/6c941c36e5
JooJoo, HP Slate, CrunchPad -- All of them look like an iPad, and all of them were shown before the iPad.
Apple: Think different, history.

Re:Big whoop
The first one, if you had seen it with the keyboard covered up.

Re:Big whoop
Copied Apple's design?
The ill-fated CrunchPad and JooJoo Pad look nearly identical, black rectangle, rounded corners, etc. Both long before the iPad.
Let's not forget the equally ill-fated HP Slate which looks like a CruchPad or JooJoo tablet -- which we saw at CES 2010 a couple weeks before the iPad made an appearance.
Here's a picture for you: http://www.2imgs.com/6c941c36e5
Are you still sure that they copied Apple? Did they steal a time-machine as well?
