Ad Muncher, which you can find here.
See, the program does a server check (which the newest cracks fix) for bad keys, then outputs a message to the effect that the offending IP address etc. have been logged and lawsuits are pending (not exactly verbatim, sorry).
If that lawsuit actually came to fruition, however, most users of the software would have no problem getting out with no scar - if you use the keygen to get a serial and register the app, then it immediately phones home even if you still have 30 days left of trial! So, effectively, a user can be threatened with legal action even when the program is still within 30 days of usage even though the click-through agreement says 30 days of trial are OK.
As a funny aside, I used Ad Muncher 4.5 w/bad serial just to evaluate the program, since I don't purchase phone-home-ware, and it was during my first few hours of use that I was threatened with this bogus lawsuit. Minutes later, McAfee (on-demand scanner, NOT a scheduled scan) detected viruses in ALL THREE archival copies of Ad Muncher beta versions stored on my machine (all downloaded from different sites), while no other programs were infected. I killed Ad Muncher's running process, and haven't been infected since. Since I'm behind a firewall, and scan everything every two days, and the AV definitions were several days old, I must assume that a running process infected my backups of Ad Muncher somehow, and the likely culprit is Ad Muncher.
Life calls, gotta go, enjoy. -
Re:I remember popups ...
I prefer to use Ad Muncher to block ads, as well as do a plethora of other web based security, privacy, and annoyance removal tasks. It works better than anything I have seen in a single browser, including Mozilla, and works on anything that initiates HTTP connections, even things like game patchers and web spider programs. It can block banner ads, textual ads (anything to, for instance, a linksynergy redirect page), and a host of other things. Hell, it even blocks the adware ads in the Main Bar of the adware version of Opera.

Re:Yea!!!To stay on topic: I believe that Amazon trying to patent this is just sheer greed. They already make money from all the orders placed through them. They supplement this income by way of implementing a system that tracks your purchases and what you browse so that they can suggest products to you that you have a high chance of buying. Ads are simply a money grab my Amazon.com, in my opinion.
And now the offtopic part
;) - Ads? What are those? ..Umm, oh, those annoying things that waste my time and try to waste my money!I haven't seen one in ages, especially since I use Ad Muncher
;) I beta test Ad Muncher for the developer, and it's a great piece of shareware. And it happens to be an excellent (and tiny!) program to help you take back control over what's displayed on your screen when you surf the web.For example, in addition to having regular in-line ads, skyscraper ads, popups, mouseovers, and a bunch of other ads removed, I have Ad Muncher configured to block all SWF files, remove code that prevents me from right clicking, and a bunch of other stuff. Extremely handy, and the install file of the latest beta is only 136k. And yeah, that's the whole program, not just an installer stub. Last I heard, the beta is due to go gold within a week or less.
Some of you reading this might think that I'm insensitive to the webmasters of various popular sites, preventing them from staying on the 'Net by depriving them of a source of revenue. To that I say, how much do you think they make from advertisements? Not much, I can tell you.
Just as shareware asks you to pay nominal fee if you find the software to be of use, I have no problem with a website asking for a nominal fee if I find their content to be of use.

Re:Question
iMesh has spyware? I had forgotten, after I ran Ad-Aware. Since I run Ad Muncher, I don't even get it's banner ads. Popups? Heaven forbid!

Ad blocking software...I say, why shouldn't we block ads? They are annoying, they slow down people on dial-ip connections (Who, gods help them, need every bit of speed they can get I would think), most ads are distateful to a majority of users, and finally, when was the last time you saw an ad that related directly to a purchase you were planning to make?
If I use software to block ads, it's my choice. If the webmasters want to put up a pathetic attempt to keep me out, then I don't have to browse their site.
And by the way, I'm going to put out a shameess plug for the shareware author that makes the most awesome ad blocking software on the 'Net in my opinion, Ad Muncher. Thanks, Murray! Ad Muncher (It's *tiny* -Less than 100k- Blocks almost every kind of ad on the 'Net, as well as preventing webmaster from disabling your right mouse button, obscuring the status bar, or moving/resizing the browser window) And it's non-expiring, non-nag shareware. I beta test new versions, so I got a free registration.
If I want to spend my money online, I'll do it when I'm good and ready to. For instance, I'm moving into a new home in January, so I went over to Wal-Mart to browse for, and maybe purchase some items. Why, if I run ad-blocking software, do I shop there and spend money? Because that website relates directly to a purchase (or purchases) that I need or want to make at the moment.
I specifically allow a few sites to send me unobtrusive advertising, and these sites pay me in points that I can accumulate for free items, in cash, or with free DVD's, for example.(MyPoints comes to mind..)

Re:Get Proxomitron
I use AdMuncher. It's shareware. However it's VERY good! It blocks popups and ad banners. It also removes banners when you leave a site. MIDIs can also be stopped as well.
