Re:any truth to the hornet story?
Yes, The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) is a reliable paper. It is in the same stable as The Age, and The Australian Financial Review, Australia's 'Wall Street Journal'.

Telstra loses loop AND cable...
There is an article in the Australian Financial Review today about the Federal Court requiring Tel$tra to share its cable network with other players. http://www.afr.com.au/cont ent/000328/invest/invest1.html
About the local loop, bandwidth in Australia $ucks, but one small benefit is that when bandwidth is restricted you learn to use it more efficiently, for example making text based websites instead of littering them with graphics made of text. -
re: look at this quoteI have to admit... I got a chuckle out of this article. If this were Microsoft (or ZDnet, et al) everyone would gleefully scream "FUD!" and call it good. Seeing it come from a commercial unix vendor... well... heh... what can you say?
I then took a look at that link and got another chuckle. To quote:
"What a great competitor to have," Mr Michels said of the Linux movement. "Since it's open source, we can steal it. Anything that they do that works and that customers want, we can just have."
Besides the obvious "not getting it"... maybe what we have here isn't FUD. It's simply public relations incompetance.

Fairfax
Fairfax probably shouldn't have FunkyCaps, because it's a family name. For whose who care, they are the publishers of the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age (Melbourne) and the Australian Financial Review.
