Re:sexist? pah!
Did you read the links? Your own links prove you wrong.
Um? Someone has some serious reading comprehension problems.
http://allnurses.com/men-in-nursing/men-nursing-historical-96326.html
"The world's first nursing school founded in India about 250 B.C. Only men were considered "pure" enough to become nurses...."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Men_in_nursing
"During plagues that swept through Europe, male nurses were primary caregivers...."
Now, you could point to wet nurses, or you could argue the definition of "nurse", but basically until the last 100 years or so, things were very different.

Let me Google that for you...

Re:hipaa violation?
hipaa violation?
that is no joking matterI know it's customary on Slashdot not to read the articles before commenting, but here is the relevant part:
Before starting the operation, I briefly recorded myself explaining the planned event, and once again, talked about the importance of not revealing any PHI (patient's health information).
Do you think he broke any those hipaa rules? Personally, I would have asked the patient to sign one additional release form (as permitted by hipaa) just in case an identifier like their face gets accidentally released on the stream, but otherwise, I do think the surgeon is appropriately covered assuming everyone followed his spoken instructions correctly.

Re:Well if that's true...
"Quit bitching and grow a backbone" to slaves?
Wow. Do you really think that is ANYTHING like what women experience? Are you fucking insane?
My wife works in technology. Guess what... she has to play by the rules of the "boys club". It's an unfortunate side effect of how things work. She still enjoys it greatly, and banters with the guys because she just doesn't view herself as a victim of anything.
Ever worked in the nursing industry? Or some other female-dominated industry? It's very different. Men end up letting a lot of shit slide in general that women don't. My point is that shit happens. We don't have a right to not be offended. If it really is a hostile environment, then yes, you should be protected. But your feelings? Cry me a fucking river, learn to deal with the real world where not everyone is entitled to be happy all the time. -
Re:So much for not sacrificing ideals for safety.
Oh it gets worse then that. Companies are selling health insurance to private individuals in Canada. That's right, in the same country that refuses to allow you to pay for your own health care, people are purchasing health insurance policies because they aren't getting the treatment they deserve.
But to add to the list of things wrong. In some European countries, the governments are Euthanizing it's seniors by denying them life saving treatments after a certain age. This practice extended to some severely injured young people but it recently started getting bad publicity in the UK and they are stopping it. Then there is the 50k limit. It seems if a life saving procedure costs more then 50k, you simply will not get it at all. Now this isn't the cost-effectiveness analysis where they attempt to determine if your life is worth saving or not, it's just the cut off line where you won't get the treatment. And at least in the UK, apparently if you go around them on that 50k limit or bypass their denial from the cost analysis, you lose your government medical rights altogether.
Most people have some glory minded image of government health care. It's probably engraved into their minds by activists like Michael Moore and their mockumentories. But evidently, it isn't what it seems.

Re:Protection of the tech jobs market
Like what,be a dope dealer? Be one of the five bazillion lawyers we are turning out now? if all the jobs that require a strong back are done by illegals, and all the jobs that require a college education are taken by H1-Bs who can work for pennies, what exactly does that leave? They are already bringing H1-Bs to replace nurses,so what, exactly,is left? Are we all supposed to write songs so we'll have IP to sell?
Let us be honest here, and I'm not trying to be snippy or flame, simply trying to point out the fallacy in yours and the "get your education in India" guy. Do you HONESTLY believe that if Americans were to start massing over there,be it India OR China, that they would welcome us? Do you HONESTLY believe that the SECOND that it looks like immigration is a threat to them that they wouldn't shut us out?
What we are seeing in this country now is the total destruction of our middle class and "working to get ahead",nothing less. Up until now if you worked hard and got an education you did better than your father before you. Now you work hard, you see what jobs are in demand, you get an education in that field, and before you even graduate the jobs that were paying 60K are now being done by a slave for 15K. Tell me,without some crazy slogan like "We should all pack up and move to India",how we are supposed to compete with someone who has to take whatever crappy conditions and pay his employer can come up with or he is thrown out the country. Tell me honestly, how do you compete with that? Just a few years ago we were seeing "tech jobs will soar" and "tech jobs will replace the jobs lost by offshoring". Are you going to authorize the government to pay off ALL the students loans since they listened to what our government and our politicians were saying and got an education in technology?
The simple fact is the giant multi-national corporations want EVERY job, except CEO and lawyer of course,to be a McJob,so they can pay the same wages your average burger flipper gets and make record profits. HEY,I bet it is a LOT cheaper for a law degree in India,we can lower prices by a LOT by bringing lawyers from there over here! Try that and see how quick it gets shot down. Why,because the congress and senate are filled up with lawyers, that's why. I bet we can get CEOs much cheaper too! Never happen. Just good old fashioned corporate greed at its most disgusting. I honestly hope we turn it around, but I just don't see it happening. But as always this is my 02c,YMMV
