Re:Seriously Where?
I am a happy end user of a SonicBlue/Frontpath Progear webpad. My only gripe is the damn thing comes with no nice GUI-based text editor (just VI), compiler, PIM, or sketchpad. However, for use as an MP3 jukebox it's pretty nice, and it makes an excellent portable browser.
You can order an FIC AquaPad here. -
Aquapad
The Aquapad is ready to go today. It uses the Crusoe processor and runs Midori Linux or Windows CE. I don't know if the touch-screen code can be ported to your favorite distro.

Aquapad
This cool little device showed a lot of promise and was not expensive. Aquapad.
I have not heard it in the news for a while though. -
to many lower cost and superior devices
I'm sorry, but it is overpriced, and the Aquapad runs Linux with handwriting recognition from Penpower. A screen that large will kill the battery life, and with a MS desktop OS you won't find handwriting recognition, so what is the point unless you have a browser based app that you only need to click buttons with?

A new concept invented by Philips?Uhm, what about an aquapad using Midori Linux with an X server on board, eventually with the help of LTSP on the server side (not needed since the Aquapad has its software in a CF card), and perhaps using also rdesktop to access Windows Terminal Server, or VNC to access regular Windows machines (and the ICA client to access Metaframe)?
It doesn't seem to be a new concept at all.

Pricing? Midori Linux vs. WinCE?
I find it interesting that if you follow the link in the review to a place where you can preorder one of these devices: www.aquapad.org, the pricing is $700 for both the Midori Linux version and the WinCE version. Doesn't it cost money for the WinCE license? And does it not cost money for the Midori Linux license (GPL)?
I guess this is just one reseller's version of the pricing. Maybe they are just taking a bigger margin on the Linux version. Too bad they don't pass the savings onto the consumer. -
Cost
Interesting device..
The review doesn't seem to say anything about cost, but Aquapad.org are selling Linux version for 700 bucks. (plus access point if you don't have one)
One thing I don't understand is why it cant view hotmail.com. They say it must be a mozilla problem, but aren't you Mozilla users able to get to Hotmail?
