Re:Stolen Idea?
So, he stole it from Goscinny and Uderzo?
Yes, the big news here is that JRR Tolkien stole a time machine from the Kaiser’s forces (which is how he got wounded at the Somme) so he could leap forward a century and steal ideas from a webcomic.

Stolen Idea?
"In short, the evil overlord Morgoth -- called Melko here -- seeks to dominate the entire world, but the hidden elvish city of Gondolin remains out of his grasp."
So, he stole it from Goscinny and Uderzo?

Re:There is British food?
There is British food? Besides boiled boar with mint sauce?
http://www.asterix.com/books/albums/asterix-in-britain.htmlSure,
Cucumber sandwiches (using white bread for the visual contrast, I suppose).
Pot pie (not that kind of pot), I think it's the British version of Haggis, you'd best not inquire as to it's individual constituents.
Various strange puddings that really should come with an MSDS.
I think there were more at one time, but the Environment Agency has been working diligently to clean up things.

Asterix explained
Asterix is a popular French cartoon character. They love him in France the way they don't love Mickey Mouse. Unlike Jerry Lewis (also beloved of the French), Asterix is actually cool.
