U.S., Japan Ask Sony To Not Outsource PS2 To Taiwan
Payp points to this Digitimes story which says: "Japanese and U.S. governments have asked Sony to stop outsourcing Playstation 2 manufacturing to 2 Taiwanese companies, Asustek and Acer, in fear that they would do the manufacturing in factories in China, which would give the Chinese government opportunies to gain access to the DVD techonology. (I thought some DVD players are already manufactured in China.) Sony originally planned to use the Taiwanese companies to manufacture PS2 to prepare for Microsoft XBox's arrival, the manufacturing of which is also outsourced to some Taiwanese companies." -
Asus Request Feedback on "Cheat" Drivers
skunkeh writes "Asus have a poll up on their site asking the general public whether or not they would like to see "SeeThrough technology" available in drivers for Asus graphics cards. The technology in question is causing uproar in the online gaming community where the drivers can be used to cheat in games such as Quake III and Counter-Strike. Asus have posted some flimsy arguments in defence of the technology on their product page but they don't appear to be convincing the several thousand gamers who have already posted their comments." I still think this is cool stuff. People are just going to cheat online: drivers don't have all that much to do with it. And if they can't cheat, they'll DoS attack. Maybe I'm just disillusioned, but I have more fun playing with people I know and trust then strangers. Strangers cheat. -

What Happened to AMD Multiprocessing?
TWX_the_Linux_Zealot asks: "Recently I realized that I hadn't heard anything new regarding AMD processors and SMP, which had occasionally been mentioned on various tech news sites. There is no mention of such chipsets on AMD's Website, or on any of the motherboard manufacturers that I would have expected at least a press release from, such as ASUS, Gigabyte, or Abit Does anyone know what's going on?"
