"rebranding"
Imagine a scenario where you and some of your friends sit down and write a really cool app. It works pretty well, so it gets posted online for others to enjoy, which many do. You don't charge money for it, but you and your friends maintain and update the app for whatever reasons you so desire, be they fun, recognition, etc.
Then I download your app, throw up a website, strike all references that refer back to you, your friends, or even your app's name, and then charge people ten bucks a pop to download your software.
That company is doing just that with GIMP (example), among others. I'm no lawyer, but even if that is legal, it certainly is still morally wrong. Don't present other peoples' work as your own. :P -
A bad sign
When your vendor is wearing this t-shirt it's a bad sign.
Of course, it could be worse. -

You, sir, are a racist pig.

Coke can telephones and radios...
How is this any different from those novelty coke can telephones and coke can radios. Once the object is hidden inside a hand-luggage bag, what the outer surface looks like isn't going to make any difference to an X-ray machine.

Re:Where is article writed located?
Well, it's not quite so cryptic -- the article you cite lists the "pillar peso" as just one theory, as if it was no more supported than crackpot theories by the likes of Rand-- but take a look at the peso itself -- it is difficult for anyone who has seen it to doubt that that was the origin of the dollar symbol

Re:From the GPL
Though I don't believe that the GPL says anything about "branding," trademark law would make it possible for someone running an open source project to refuse to let any "derivative works" use the original, trademarked name. For example, Linus Torvalds owns the trademark to the name "Linux," and he could force anyone writing a derivative kernel to choose another name.
"Luxuriosity OS," anyone?
I cracked up when I saw the ad for LuxuriosityOffice. It's not clear that he's adding anything of value other than "full support and refund services." The latter, at least, is totally useless since it can be had for free. Nor can I imagine him setting up any sort of support.
It looks like he's given the same treatment to GIMP and Audacity [current auctions] I must say, the girl on the CD case is pretty hot.
Finally, check out one of his other entrepreneurial pasttimes: I turn you into a supermodel! Conclusion: Strange guy. -
Re:Other examples
Oh god, what has he done to the poor woman on the office CD? And, conversely, what (who?) is she crushing with her hands? Well I guess it's better than being drugged by this freak.

i dont get it
WHY do people think that rolling scroll mice are the best? i can only find one pressure scroll mouse, and its not available in optical models as far as i cant tell. with pressure scroll you dont have to lift a finger to keep scrolling the stupid thing. all you have to do is hold the little nob down with a varying amount of pressure to get where you want on the page. its a brilliant design, and one that hasnt cought on at all. i hate rolling scroll mice, and everyone who has used my ibm scroll point mouse loves it.. look and see.. i have a newer more advanced one of these.. but i cant find an optical version. ive een thought of transplanting the optical portion into the scroll point body cause i hate rolling scroll mice. anyways.. off my soapbox.
