Re:Dag-nabbit.
They did check their radar records and found nothing.
That's a bug, then. Because their records are the ones used by the flight-tracker website to produce the track for that flight, which is actually shown in TFA. And it does have the data:
http://blog.bahneman.com/imagebrowser/view/imagecache/278/425px_wide
Instead of saying "there's this airliner that follows a route that should be in that shot", they said "we know you saw something there at this time but we have nothing on our radar".
Now, maybe they were confused because someone insisted the origin of the plume was "35 miles west of LA", so that's all they looked at.
Who's running this country, anyway?
Not the newsies, fortunately.
Not the proper Newsies, maybe. Fox News seems to be able to get its people elected. The other networks don't even have candidates.
But, and this is a big but, the newsies are supposed to be our eyes and ears on the government. And the government treats the newsies (in their actual news-gathering function, not their campaign-management function) as the enemy.
That means the government treats us as the enemy.
And that is a major problem.

Re:Obvious reason
I'm guessing any for-profit companies will be keeping the lid on the capabilities of their products, so that they can slowly roll out "new" features every quarter, and consumers will be attracted to upgrading.
Sure, they try, but things do get hacked, for example the EOS300D (Digital rebel to you US'ers) has had its firmware hacked for quite a while, as its the only Digital cammer i own, its the only one i pay attchen to, but im sure theres plenty more out there.
This hack gives many of the features of the more expsensive 10D..
To quote
"Did you know your 10D and 300D run DOS? "
Some of the hacks are things like changing what the defults of the buttons are, to allowing flash sync. when you couldnt before, mirror locking and alternating between 1/3rd and 1/2 stops, all ranter usefull featuers that whent avaible in the 300d, but should of been.
Unfortanly the 4 FPPS and slower file writing couldnt be hacked, or no ones found out a decent and stable overclocking, this is your task, should you chose to accept. -

Re:Obvious reason
Recently? This Blog says it's been around since April last year. It's just been perfected recently.
There's more features in the 20D that can't be enabled. The 20D has way more Autofocus points than the Digital Rebel too. As well, the 20D does a much better job with the autofocus in low light conditions. -

FACTOID: Did you know your 10D and 300D run DOS? That's right. Embedded in the camera is DataLight's ROM-DOS. In fact, if you use the right tool such as s10sh http://www.kyuzz.org/antirez/s10sh.htmlyou can see that inside the camera is an A: and B: drive. On the A: drive reside command.com and autoexec.bat, and most interestingly, camera.exe -
I did this with a homemade harness and coolpix 885

i ons/Aerial/
Using a regular nylon delta kite and some hard drive
packing foam I managed to get the coolpix up for some aerial photography at Long Beach, WA.
The camera has a remote cord that can take pictures at a minimum 2 minute interval, so I activated it,
packed it into the housing and sent it aloft. I didn't have any fancy RC PTZ controls like another fellow at the beach, but it seemed to work fairly well and with the luck of the wind, managed to get a few decent shots off. The maximum height I got was around 150ft.
I was pretty excited to invest in a larger, loftier kite with more payload, but the urge went away and I'm happy with the early results.
