Bangladesh crop yields up, not down
They're not running away from slightly warmer weather, they're running away from the secondary effects of that warmer weather: Too much rain/not enough rain, crop losses due to higher temps
The truth is those factors alone are not enough to convince most people to move. Several years of bad crops and California farmers are still farming.
You aren't suffering from a lack of imagination, just a lack of understanding the overall conditions of the regions people are leaving. "Poor crop yield" is so far down the list it doesn't even register, and makes very little sense for some of the areas talked about (like Bangladesh).
In fact, it turns out that Bangladesh crop yields are going up, if you look at potatoes the output is up - in fact the real problem with crops this past year was not warmer weather, but flooding. Even so total agricultural production was up 2.9% overall, so why would people be refugees from Bangladesh based on crop yields when they are up?

Re:Not very secure
To be precise, it was a "CNG auto-rickshaw"
... doubt he felt he was in any danger until the moment they whisked him off. From the run-around his family got by the local constabulary, it sounds as if the local police are part of the rendition, if no more than serving as an obstruction for someone else. -
Re:Seems fishy
National sovereignty? What's that? For those of us in non-USA English-speaking countries, the situation is strange. We're not American citizens, we have no vote for the US president or Joint Chief of Staffs, yet our leaders take their orders from your leaders.
Completely agree with the parent. A few days ago, out of nowhere, an intrusive "anti-terrorism" law has been passed by the parliament in Bangladesh. Every civil liberty group within the country has been completely surprised by this mysterious act by the government. I do believe this is related to recent Snowden incident.
[ Posting AC because I'm usually a slashdot lurker and too lazy to log in. A minor complain: Why does slashdot crowd always wants to label it as an 'American Tech News Site'. Does being 'international' strips it off it's glories? Or is it because it's foundations are in USA? Every 'international' website needs to have it's roots somewhere, right? ]

Re:Sure... we believe you
... and this happens to break the trend...
what began as a protest against a war crimes trial verdict, has turned into a call to re-establish the secular constitution. yes the country is 80%+ Muslim; however only 1.5~2% votes for the pro-sharia style jamat party.
http://opinion.bdnews24.com/2013/02/19/media-blackout-why-is-not-the-world-acknowledging-shahbagh/
'â¦The significance of Shahbagh is that ordinary people have taken to the streets after a long, long time. This is not about legal arguments, or capital punishment morality, or political manoeuvring towards future elections. I believe deep inside, this is a visceral rejection of fundamentalism, and the end game which Jamaat brings to the table. On some level I think people realize that there is no room for us in the kind of world they want to build. Our people are secular at heart. Our women work. We love music, and dancing. We care about literature, and language. Even with thousands in Shahbagh chanting for death, there is, inevitably, pockets of song and dance and plays, outbursts of the sentimentality which is our national character. We were never meant to be a fundamentalist state. This Jamaat thing is alien, even when perpetrated on us by some of our own. Shahbagh is the silent majority rising up against the use of religion to bully, the issuing of bewildering fatwas, the adoption of Arab dress and Arab ways, the blatant distortion of the past, the peculiar assault on our culture. Re:So stupid it's got to be official.
yes but when you use it you are a threat to national security/terrorist....
Unless you run a bank like HSBC.
Then you get a slap on the wrist and stern talkin' to.
Gitmo is reserved for the proles; Party members need not concern themselves. -
Re:Official MinTruth Statement
What crime has an executive level banker committed that they should be arrested for?
