I solved my 'deep linking' problem...
...by making up the URL's as I go along. In a multiplayer strategy game it is important that players not be able to simply look into the other sectors to see who is/what is hiding there. Not being a complete fool I didn't just make any URL resolve directly to the game sector in question. You have to log in, get issued a 'ship' and navigate to that sector.
Of course, I'm not a professional webmaster who knows all sorts of sophisticated web stuff, so it wasn't a problem for me. I guess it's much more complicated if you know what you're doing.
BTW, I'm wondering what part of 'Uniform Resource Locator' these yahoo's don't understand. -
Texas, and now Denmark
Wired News has a similar interesting article about a cease and desist letter sent to an independant news site by Belo, corporate parent of The Dallas Morning News, forbidding them from linking to individual stories within the site. They claim that the author can only link to the site's homepage, and attempting to link to stories within the site violates their copyright.

Tell 'em what you think
From belo.com's website, their contact address is: blc@belo.com. Let them know you think their policies are idiotic. If you're in Dallas, tell them that you're going to consider cancelling your newspaper subscription, and stop reading their articles. They'll get the clue.

Re:Technical Solution
Don't tell us! Tell the Dallas News (via their contact form) and their parent company, Belo.

Belo Corporation
Belo Corporation is one of the investors in CueCat. They own a number of TV stations such as WFAA channel 8 here in Dallas where I see CueCat promotions all the time now. They also own the Dallas Morning News. Their web sites, which run on NT, have many web bugs, which made it necessary for me to block the domain names they use to deliver those bugged images (which also took out most of the ads). The evil is not so much in DC as it is in companies like Belo that want to get that private and personal information about your, your family, your web travels, and your spending habits. They will do what it takes to get such information, including investing in startups like DC and CueCat.
