Re:Yeah, right
You forgot the step where you apply for a grant! You can't forget that; it's the most important part of any version of the scientific method!

Re:I love this kind of story
one usually forms a hypothesis to fit data, not the other way around
But either way, the second step is always apply for a grant!

A true classic
The only classic text I remember from school was Science Made Stupid.

Science Made Stupid
Here are excerpts from Science Made Stupid -- be sure to look up the Universe, Life, Chemistry, and Evolution. This book, by Tom Welling (not Tom Weller), has all our Slashdot favorites and more! It is now out of print. I saw a price for a used copy of $195-- which makes me want to sell my beater copy of this book for $100! The master of the pan flute, Zamfir, loved it. You will never have a finer science laugh.

Re:From TFA:
I would posit that I am the center of the universe. No matter where I am, I'm here. As I walk, the world moves beneath my feet.
Yes, that's known as the "egocentric model", in competition with the "geocentric model" popular before Copernicus, and the "heliocentric" model he championed. This is all covered in this highly informative book, which is sadly out of print.

Re:With Apologies To Bill Watterson
Yeah, but this is the way to really get kids interested in science. Sell some slime-propulsed bacteria with a copy of Science Made Stupid and Scientific Progress Goes 'Boink' and pack them into the classrooms.
Don't know what should accompany Culture Made Stupid, though... The Revenge of the Baby-Sat?

So which is it: no debt is good or debt is great? -
Re:independent thought
If Genesis is the literal and complete truth in every detail, who did Cain and Abel have kids with?
Oh, that's easy. -
A New Paradim...Parotdym...Whatever You Call It.This completely straightened out my thinking on the entire Evolution/Creation controversy:

Suppliers like in "Science Made Stupid"?
I can't help but be reminded of some of the "supply stores" mentioned in "Science Made Stupid" as the places to get various dangerous things. U-235 rods from "Bud's Scientific Supply," anyone?
Footnote on page 25 (might not be in the web version linked above): "A fuller discussion of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle may be found in the Appendix. Then again, it may not."

Re:What about Librium, polonius, and steponum?
Here is an abridged online version of Science Made Stupid. My favorite is the constellation chart.
