How about "Madden is $20" Day?
Sorry EA advertising agency, this pales in comparison to as Sega's NFL 2K4 Beta-7 campaign.

Re:Countdown?
The website and any related materials is most likely put together by a marketing agency. It's what they call "viral marketing:" http://www.wilsonweb.com/wmt5/viral-principles.ht
m and it has been done many times before. For example, http://www.beta-7.com/.
I can't believe people here are so easy to fool... -
Re:Hmmm
With their history of it, I can't say I'm surprised.

Sometimes, maybe, games can turn people wacko. Not sure if this is a hoax, but scary none the less. ESPN Football Causes Violent behavior

Kinds reminds me of the recent beta-7.com hoax.
There was this... well still is this site http://www.beta-7.com that claims the new Sega football game causes siezures and memory loss. There was an article here on slashdot maybe a month or 2 ago.

GMD Studios
http://www.beta-7.com/blog/archives/000003.html which has a comment written by a "Jim" who's name links to GMD Studios, a "groundbreaking new media production firm based in Orlando, Florida".
More werid crap can be found by replacing the "000003" in the URL with any other padded number in that general vicinity.
I'll admit I like the approach. It's kind of a bit entertaining to see a marketing company which blatantly badmouths it's client in it's marketing material (even if it is part of the plan) =) -
I know where the mystery packages came fromFrom the site:
Got a delivery today from Beta-13! It's a surveillance video showing a mailroom guy pushing a cart by some cubicles when all of a sudden this guy runs into frame and tackles the mail guy! He does a little victory dance, just like I did and then passes out. I recognized the tackler from the beta test, so I knew it was for real.
Hey, I think I recognized the tackler too. Could anybody else dance like that? He's like a monkey, man!
