Gimp & other Adobe competition
Adobe still needs to be punished for instigating the arrest of Dmitry Sklyarov. He's now free, but Adobe never paid his legal costs and still supports the vile DMCA. Is there any way to support Gimp development financially? Are there other free software applications looking for financial support that offer viable alternatives to Adobe's core revenue-generating applications?

Oh, shoot. This is just beautiful. One of the few file type you could trust under the MS platform is now compromised, by another VB programmer to boot.
On the other hand, a few points are worth noting:
- This is not dangerous, unless you use Adobe Acrobat, and not the reader.
I use Acrobat, but under the Macintosh, so I am safe. - This is a Microsoft-only virus. If you run Adobe Acrobat Reader (or XPDF) under Linux or BSD, or something, you are probably safe.
On the other hand: "[...] Adobe doesn't currently plan to prevent VBScript or other files from running."
I say this is just another reason to boycott Adobe! It's just turning into another Microsoft.
I also think the XPDF programmers should add security features to their (excellent) software, as well.
Just my US$ 0.02... - This is not dangerous, unless you use Adobe Acrobat, and not the reader.

Keep the pressure on Adobe!Despite the fact that the US Government has now become the heavy in this debacle, everyone should remember who got the ball rolling: Adobe.
We need to keep the pressure on Adobe. We need to let them know that the boycott will continue. We need to let them know that they cannot pressure the FBI to press charges against someone and then back-off when they witness the PR fallout. Keep writing the letters. Keep sending the emails. Keep encouraging people to boycott this company!
If corporations do not understand that there will serious consequences to both their reputation and bottom-line when they pursue prosecution under the DMCA (regardless of how they feel the morning after!), then they will continue to do so under the flimsiest pretenses.
They want to make an example of Dmitry? Fine, then we'll make an example of Adobe.

Oh, Those Spinmeisters!I just love this spin-and-deflect move they pull at the end of their PR:
Q: Did Adobe order the arrest?
I love how they deflect any questions about the case to the USAO, as if they don't know anything. "Err, uh, we didn't order the arrest, we just uh, encouraged the U.S. Attorney's Office to do it for us. Uh, yeah! That's it! That's the ticket!"
A: Adobe did not order the arrest. That was the sole decision of the U.S. government. Adobe alerted the U.S. Attorney's office to investigate the activities of Elcomsoft regarding the possible illegal distribution of its "Advanced eBook Processor." Based on the information gathered in the investigation (see affidavit), the U.S. Government chose to take legal action.
Q: Who says that the United States gets to impose its laws (specifically, the Digital Millenium Copyright Act) on individuals and businesses in other countries?
A: Questions regarding the law and its enforcement in this case should be forwarded to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Q: What will happen next?
A: Any questions regarding this investigation should be forwarded to the U.S. Attorney's office.
They may not have ordered the arrest, but they are certainly guilty of initiating it! Adobe, your hands are still stained...
