The obvious is obvious
Earth has become a very small and limited place. Space is full of raw materials and energy, limitless amounts of them. It's definitely the new frontier and going to other places when the place they were was used up and overpopulated is exactly what people did since millions of years and what caused our species to spread over all the planet. Everyone who thinks that we will be limited to this rock just has no idea.

Re:Fascinating!
Are you sure that they didn't? Researchers have identified a set of abstract symbols that show up repeatedly in various cave paintings, including the cro-magnon cave paintings in France. It's not inconceivable that this represents a form of early proto-writing.

That's not the only time it happened
Here's a cute little rendition: http://www.bradshawfoundation.com/journey/ which includes the 70K reduction along with a few others.

Two parents makes a more geneticaly robust child
Given that a lot of people may have defective genes as a result of the geographical isolation of their ancestors (inbreeding), any form of cloning to produce offspring is not a good idea. There are already over 500 diseases caused by genes. Better to breed with a person from as different a genetic group as possible, to ensure your child's genome is as robust and diverse as possible. As an example of inbreeding recent DNA analysis has shown that all blue eyed people share a single common ancestor.
For a good visualization of human genetic diversity.

Pick a mate that is on the most distant part of the human family tree from yourself.
There is a very good reason that sexual reproduction evolved, it works well and protects the integrity of the genome. -

FFS! Rather than moderate the
/dribble about DNA forensic testing as OT, I'll contribute.
This is a valuable service (yes there are others available) that tests certain parts of the mitachondrial DNA to establish your maternal lineage and tests certain parts of the Y chromosome (I make the assumption that 98% of the readers are male) to establish your paternal lineage.
If you want to educate yourself on one of the benefits, please take a few hours to learn how this technique has provided amazing details of the 165k yr journey of mankind to populate the planet http://www.bradshawfoundation.com/journey -

Other research
Some research on this was done before.
There was also this fellow, British I think, who did a documentary about early human migration using genetics, he was on TV (PBS?) a few years back. Nice work. He showed that there were two waves out of Africa. One hugged the coastline reaching India then all the way to Australia, and another going to central Asia, then staying there for a while, and then a branch going west to Europe, and another going east to Siberia, Beringia, and eventually to the Americans. Can't remember his name. Rats!
Some other resources:
Scientists trace human migration using DNA.
Wikipedia article on Human migration.
Stephen Oppenheimer did a genetic map.
