    "To the best of my knowledge, Dennis Ritchie and Howard Trickey remain, enisled." Do you suppose the author was going for 'enlisted' or actually meant to use 'enisled', which is indeed a word, and possibly an apt, if not a little prosaic, one.

    You've obviously never read any of his books :-).

    Seriously, though, most great writers I know of consider grammer to be little more than a set of suggestions they vaguely remember learning in grade school.

    <sarcasm> As much as I admire and respect BrainyDictionary.com </sarcasm>, the Oxford English Dictionary on my desk says that "gantlet" and "gauntlet" are spelling variations of the same word.
