Re:no problem
> (presumed) suicide of Sunil Tripathi
Odd that Sunil was http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/sunil-tripathi-body-found_n_3155595.html>reported missing March 16th, if his "suicide" was caused by the exposure over the bombing that occurred on April 18th.
Sure, he was FOUND on the 23rd, so it is conceivable he committed suicide in reaction. But what was he doing between March 16 and April 32, aside from not going to class?
I agree, though, that crowd sourcing and more public cameras will make it more likely that police will be able to find body-doubles for criminals more easily.

Re:Someone has high demands.
A few mailboxes (20 out of 200) had the wrong mail migrated into them. We don't even know the source of this problem yet, but the university could very well have TOLD Google to put sally.smith's e-mail into sally.jones' new mail box.
This isn't a google apps security problem. Please RTFA and get off your high horse.
No, why don't you RTFA and get off your high horse. According to an article linked from TFA, Google acknowledged the problem was on their end, and an earlier comment from a Brown sysadmin indicates that Google upgraded their migration tool right before this happened. It may have "only" been 20 out of 200 accounts, but the problem is squarely Google's fault; stop blaming the Brown sysadmins.

Re:Someone has high demands.
My impression is that this incident is a fuckup at the customer end of things
No, according to this article, "The problem was on Google's end. They acknowledged a bug," and according to this comment, Google had upgraded their IMAP migration tool right before this happened.
Sounds like a case of insufficient testing on Google's part before rolling out the new version of their tool.

Re:What else can you do?
And you're an idiot for calling names instead of recognizing the real, important differences between a student's position and an employee's. So nyah.
There is no difference, or if there is you certainly haven't demonstrated it.
Incorrect. When the GP wrote "Students shouldn't be texting in class. If a student refuses to follow the rules, you have to do something", he wasn't discussing legality. "Students shouldn't be texting" and "you have to do something" are normative judgments, not legal facts: it's not illegal for students to text in class, nor for teachers to let them do it.
Really? Have you got a copy of that schools code of conduct handy? Maybe you could e-mail it to me?
Ha! You seem to have forgotten that we're talking about a minor here, who had no say in the law in the first place.
Untrue - minors have the same right to petition their government and carry out non-violent protests as anyone else, they just don't have the right to vote. There's plenty of cases where students have played a key role in changing laws - here is one random example from a 10 second google search. Moreover, student councils can and do petition schools and school boards on a regular basis, which is more pertinent to what we're discussing here.

Re:Too Bad?(That will teach me to accidentally hit 'submit')
Additionally, you're wrong.
Brown UniversityAfter a summer of exhibition to the public, the team will deconstruct the house for transport down to Washington and will begin its final construction Sept. 29, entering the final phase of a two-year long journey.
Lower Manhattan Development Corporationhe testing and characterization process is ongoing and the initial results were released on September 14, 2004. Contractor will be performing the cleaning and deconstruction of the building.

In early 2004, an accord between Deutsche Bank and its insurers was reached to bring down the Deutsche Bank building. The deconstruction will remove the shrouded Deutsche Bank building that had been a constant grim reminder of the events of September 11, 2001.
Under the terms of the accord, LMDC was able to purchase the land and will pay for the deconstruction of the building.
Aluminum AssocOfficials at PNC Financial Services, for example, plan to recycle more than 70 percent of the downtown Pittsburgh building they recently began deconstructing, a trend being seen at more demolition sites nationwide.
Cement GroupFort Lauderdale Airport Interchange - This interchange project involved many challenges including context sensitive aesthetics, uninterrupted access over railroad tracks to the international airport, complex bridge arrangement, tight radii of curvature, and deconstruction of existing segmental bridges. Balanced cantilever precast concrete segmental bridges were selected because of their pleasing aesthetics and functionality suitable for the urban setting.
I could go on for quite a while. Get off your high horse. -
Re:Morph
Well, my earlier posting didn't get voted up (at all). But back in 1988 (I looked it up) the original Nintendo Metroid game featured a main character Samus Aran who could roll into a "morph" ball. So late 80's is at least established as an earlier point of use.

ms fighting linux expansion
It's good to see more linux successes. MS has really been perking up though. Take, for example, the recent link here to the leaked memo to theregister where linux is stated to be the threat. http://slashdot.org/articles/01/11/12/136243.shtm
l MS has really been perking up. Check out this little tidbit; looks like MS is now dumping copies of winxp at universities to try and combat the fact that intelligent people are using other systems. http://www.browndailyherald.com/stories.cfm?S=0&ID =5668 The MS drones are already out in force; you should leave a little feedback...
