How To Get The Most Out Of Dummynet
An anonymous reader writes "BSDVault has published a tutorial on using dummynet to weight and queue traffic based on classes and type of service. The tutorial is called 'IPFW NAT firewall with WF2Q+ (Worst-case Fair Weighted Fair Queuing) Policy' and details how to add queuing and priority to the traffic flowing in and out of your network. There is also an example script to get you started in writing your own rules with plenty of self explanatory configurations that you should find very useful for getting a similar config up and working. If you are into this kind of thing a worthy read ... " -

Microsoft Media Player "Security Patch" Changes EULA Big Time
MobyTurbo writes "In an article on BSD Vault a careful reader posts that in the latest Windows Media Player security patch, the EULA (the "license agreement" you click on) says that you give MS the right to install digital rights management software, and the right to disable any other programs which may circumvent DRM on your computer." So if you want your machine secure, you also want microsoft to have free reign on your PC. -

Jason123 writes: "Almost twenty days ago, FreeBSD's (& also Apple's) Jordan Hubbard gave an interview via IRC to BSDVault. With permission from BSDVault, OSNews has now cleaned-up the interview, formatted it in a more readable manner and published the result. Jordan talks all sorts of interesting things, like FreeBSD 5, his job at the kernel team at Apple, the FreeBSD commmunity, XFree, Microsoft and more." (This is the interview featured in slightly rawer form here.) -

BSDvault: For the Users, By the Users!
Diesel writes "We've been quietly building a user-supported, pro-BSD site over the last three months, and we'd like to gain additional exposure. The site is mainly oriented towards new users, but experienced users are definitely encouraged to check us out. We've recently upgraded our bulletin board so that it's more tightly integrated with the rest of the site. Anyone who'd like to help out by submitting stories, help tutorials and artwork is more than welcome. We have a fairly large collection of excellent links relating to BSD, with some in other categories as well. Most of our user base uses FreeBSD, as most of the tutorials reflect. We'd also like to see more NetBSD and OpenBSD users contributing by submitting tutorials and posting on the bulletin board. Check it out at BSDvault" -
