Fascism Can't Last Forever, Baby
Thankfully, that is. A lot of people - particular those who seem to think that a certain candidate in this race is some sort of anarchist alternative - don't realize how close we are to electing a fascist leader (or how much they might be helping that person to be elected). We have seen fascism get a lot of positive free press here on slashdot before when being paraded about as something other than what it really is. Thankfully fascist regimes always get toppled in the end, there just is no guarantee who will be around long enough to see that end.

Re:Is it bribery?
Why should they get them again as part of a corporation?
No, the proper form of that question is: "why should they lose those rights as part of a corporation?" Or as a part of a union, or religious organization, or civic organization, or minority organization, or political party?
Unless you are advocating for a complete ban on all "collective" political speech - including collective organizations like unions, religious groups, civic groups, minority groups, and any other form of grouping you care to name, then your position is logically incoherent, and amounts to wishing away the rights of some people whose views you disagree with and wish to silence. It really is that simple. And even if your position were logically coherent and you wished to ban all collective speech, it would be a fundamental violation of the rights of individuals.
The Constitution specifically affirms that the people have the right to engage in these activities - individually, or collectively. For someone who claims to be "very careful of rights," you seem to be missing that very clear point. Rather than seeking to silence your opponents (curious undemocratic, that!), you should be seeking to propose better opposing ideas, better arguments, and better solutions - and you're free to do so by grouping together with like-minded friends and neighbors and engaging in collective political speech.
And that's WHY I point out the damage that corporations lobbying politicians does to democracy.
Ah yes, lobbying is evil! Well, as long as we disagree with the goals of the lobbyist organization, amirite?
The NRA? Oh they're evil, they lobby the government!
The EFF? They're saints! They fight for our freedoms!Campaign for Liberty? LOL LIBERTARDIANS! They're stupid and lobby the government with their backwards ideas!
MoveOn.org? They're brave soldiers fighting the good fight for democracy! -

Your scathing cynicism shows you obviously understand nothing about Rand Paul or how much he or is father is hated by the Republican party.
Nor do you understand what the Campaign for Liberty is all about.
This is a libertarian message being injected into the Republican platform. Do you know what Rand Paul had to do to even get this platform pushed? Endorse Mitt Romney and not his own father for President, even before it was a done deal.
This is how you change things. You work within the party. I don't see the Democrats doing a damn thing about Internet freedom and constitutional rights. Where have you been the past four years? Finally, everyone should have a listen to this. The funny thing is, what he won't tell you publicly, is that the GOP doesn't follow their own rules either.

The Pauls are dead serious about the Constitution, to a degree that Democrats and Republicans don't like. Now do you understand why they are universally hated among both sides of the establishment? -
Who here feels puzzled by their elected officials?
You voted for them, over and over, they have the same comfortable (D) or (R) after their name as you do and that makes you feel good about your "team". But now your teammate is sponsoring SOPA/PIPA... What happened?
Are you feeling puzzled by this flagrant grab for power?
The reason you are puzzled is that you have a problem with trust. Or rather, that you trust in your government too much. You're only feeling the sting of that trust being broken because for once, it's your ox that's getting gored.
I guess my question for you, Mr. and Mrs. Big Government, is: why do you trust "your guy" and demonize the "other guy"? News flash: "your guy" is a DEMON!!
I've said it before, I'll say it again, if you voted to keep any of the current party leaders in power (don't forget the leadership controls the legislative agenda), or if you've ever voted for any of the original SOPA/PIPA sponsors, then YOU are the problem. YOU let this happen. Don't shrug your shoulders and complain how you didn't know or "why is he/she doing this to me?" YOU empowered these bastards! Shame on YOU! Don't repeat your stupid mistakes again. Your pack of liars that call themselves a political party isn't worth it - it isn't worth saving.
We're now, finally, playing for the whole kit-and-kaboodle. This is it. We're actually seeing the leading edge of a movement to take away control of our free ability to communicate with each other!
Oh, you don't think these bills can't possibly pass? Hm, how cute your optimism is! Let's take a quick trip down recent memory lane, shall we? Remember the lost cause of Obamacare and when Scott Brown got elected? It was gonna get the filibuster! Hooray, that obamination of Pelosicare is dead!! But then, suddenly, the Senate didn't matter
... those hogs in congress just waved their greasy, fat little fingers and passed the house bill through the senate with a simple majority via "Reconciliation"! Reconciliation is a device that was only supposed to be used for BUDGET resolutions! Illegal? No, but definitely breaking some established rules. NOT COOL.Don't forget: what the people want and demand no longer matters. These bills have big money backing them, they're going to at least come up for a vote. It's possible they could pass - there just need to be the right legislative devices used - deem-and-pass ("demonpass") at midnight if you have to. Do you really think Obama wouldn't rubber stamp just about any bill Harry Reid sends him? C'mon, WAKE UP, O IS A FAILURE!!
There is only one solution: it's time to primary challenge all these incumbents. You wannabe hippie OWS'ers and all you boring religious nuts and scatterbrains on the tea party side need to come together on this one issue and FLIP THE GODDAMN SWITCH! Every clown on the following two lists must be booted from public office at the next possible election - these are our ENEMIES!

The people are becoming aware that some absurd law scribbled on paper by filthy, sub-human bureaucrats does not carry the same weight as the laws of nature. History shows that when the injustice and oppression of the common citizen becomes too much, they will rise and throw off the shackles. Have a nice day!

Re:To be fair...
They actually did know what it meant. They knew what teabagging was, and thought it would be hilarious to imply that they would be dipping their balls into the mouths of liberals.
Interesting that you claim that now, yet 2 posts above you claim that they didn't. spun said:
Now that teabaggers know what the term means, they call themselves tea partiers. But back in the day, they carried teabags around and called themselves teabaggers.
Selective "fact" finding? You even posted an article to support your above contention.
And just to be clear, I have zero respect for most so called teabaggers.
Yea, I think that comes through just fine, as well as your lumping a lot of defenders of liberty in with all kinds of ignorant crazies and GOP establishment types.
Perhaps it is only a few bad apples that make the group look crazy, but any group that lets its craziest members speak for it, that in fact encourages the crazies, deserves no respect.
You're looking at it from the outside, and must be relying bad (read: opposition) sources for your information, because there is plenty of effort to ignore/quiet/distance the "crazies" from the movement.
Part of the issue just a basic difference in the Liberty movement and the Progressive movement. The conservative activists tend to want to let everyone express themselves, and not try to control the message, while the progressives do exactly the opposite, to the point that their ultimate end-game (return to Feudalism) isn't even discussed, but instead is wrapped in rhetorical terms like "Democracy" and "Social Justice", and the message is carefully controlled, without getting into the details of the policies they support. This is evident by checking the progressive sites like MoveOn.org, Center for American Progress, Media Matters, etc., where user content isn't allowed. Compare this to sites like CampaignForLiberty.org, where users can sign up, create blogs, post comments, and freely discuss their views.
If you don't like people calling you a fucking cretin, I suggest you refrain from discussing your politics online, or stick to the right wing echo chambers where your views will be encouraged.
Good demonstration of the progressive mind-set. "Shut up and let your betters speak for you."

Re:Ok..how about taxes?
I've never known a libertarian or real conservative republican that didn't think corporate bailouts were good.
Where are you living? What you describe sounds more like a neocon to me. I don't know *any* libertarian or "real conservative" republicans that thought the corporate bailouts were anything but institutionalized doom. And I know a lot of them. Many that are working to get Eric Cantor booted from the House for supporting the bailout (and being a traitor), in spite of the fact that doing so would likely give his Democratic opponent the seat instead.
Here are a few examples:
- Virginia Liberty Defense railing against the bailout
- How about the Independent Institute?
- Or the Cato Institute
- Or the Campaign for Liberty
Maybe you think the reporters on Fox news are "real conservatives"?
