Re:Hey CmdrTaco
Really? You make plenty of spelling/grammatical mistakes on your own little website too (to). For example:
"For example, I'm beginning to suspect some snow we had here recently was do to God's displeasure at the University of Southern California's loss in the Rose Bowl."
It's due not do. Or your Ricky McGinn entry starts off with a run-on sentence that's a paragraph long.
And, by the way, I don't even know why you bother setting up your blog and posting to it, seeing on how you get an average of about .2 to .3 comments per post (that's discounting comments you made yourself). In comparison, the majority of the front page stories on Slashdot right now have over 200 comments. And to mimic some of the comments that CmdrTaco gets and you defend/think he should "let ... get to him", "your Lisa" doesn't look too hot (though you claim she's losing weight) and the fact that you've proud she graduated Western Michigan University is hilarious... what did she need to get in? A pulse?
I couldn't even bring my self to use most of the terminology probably employed in what's an overkill of telling a guy about a spelling error he made. Even if there are factual errors made: get over it. I'm not even really saying this to totally defend Slashdot: there are plenty of complaints expressed in comment-form that I think are appropriate, even in article discussions. For example, lots of people question a possible bias in picking some articles, even speculating on financial ties. Fine. But to tell the guy he's a piece of shit because the noun he used was misplaced is just a symptom of the anonymity of the internet resulting in people doing things they normally wouldn't do. This very post is another example of that.
I'm sure a lot of this stuff got to you too. Maybe you shouldn't be too quick in advocating for others what you yourself wouldn't enjoy. There's probably a common adage about doing unto others out there, but for fuck's sake, I can't think of it. -
Re:Animal Rights Movement
Thank you for proving my point. For some liberals, the focus on anti-abortion extremism is so myopic that the first reaction to animal rights terrorism is "but what about abortion clinic violence?" as if one cannot be opposed to both.
This is like Sen. Patrick Leahy's assertion that hearings on animal rights terrorism were pointless and no one really cares about animal rights terrorism.
Now, of course, you have bio companies who cannot get listed on NYSE because the NYSE is scared of animalr rights extremists. -
Raids, corruption as a New business planNow you can get ahead by monkeywrenching your competitors, even if you can't get ahead through better products or marketing. You only have to look at the difficulties that Steve Jackson Games had over ten years ago. Being able to cause that much economic damage to your (smaller) competitors through a simple phone call will be too much of a temptation.
It was bad enough that the directive slid in as a "fast track". The directive needs to be cancelled, perhaps so does the "fast track" program itself seeing as the woman who initiated this directive did so despite conflict of interest.
BTW While y'all are fussing about SCO and other MBA monkey business, there is an attempt to change how U.S. laws are interpreted, which is much more harmful that just changing the laws themselves.

1999 NASA report said foam was no riskI came accross a very interesting article that refers to a 1999 NASA press release that was mysteriously pulled out of the web but survives thanks to Google.
Basically, it proves that NASA was aware of the problems generated by foam insulation particles flying off the main tank, but the agency dismissed them.
Interestingly, foam problems started when the foam was modified to comply with new EPA regulations without adequate testing.
I heard a lot of grumpy engineers complain that they when they work on a government project, they cannot change the color of a button without having to go through layers of red tape. So how come that the EPA can get NASA to pull such a major change without any control? Is that because administrations feel nothing wrong can come out of measures that increase their costs, hence their budgets?
I am afraid that NASA has outlasted its usefulness. It should be sized down and concentrate on science missions, while leaving commercial launches to commercial enterprises. The US public should clamor for it while it's still time.
Then again, there is nothing intrinsecally wrong with having a Chinese moonbase and an Indian space station.

Poor Dmitry
No one can spell his name.
Check out this news article where his name is spelled two different ways throughout the article.
Between that and "Dmitri" littered all over the place, it's probable that his name is encrypted and subject to DMCA protection (-; -
Re:Why not just charge to send email? What about admin. email? What about legit. mailing lists? And don't you think the spammers will still have the ISPs shift the costs to the end subscribers with things like relay raping?
You are not the 1st one with this idea, pity it doesn't work

Re:rofl.
El Al run 40 flights a day, and spend $6,164 per flight on security. That makes El Al's security unrealistic for the major airlines.
