Wrong! Lying is the correct form.

If you are in the process of putting something down, you are laying it down, but that object once it is there, it is lying. The verb lay has a direct object that the action is performed on. He is laying the book credenza. She is laying her purse on the counter. Once it has been laid, it is now lying. The book is lying on the credenza. The purse is lying on the counter. IP addresses are lying unused.

Re:Shome mishtake shurely?
Don't you mean "less people"?
No, actually. Because we can speak about "two people" or "thirty-seven people," it qualifies as a count noun. "People" is just a non-standard plural. Of course, it's not uncommon to hear some one say, informally, "less people", but the rule says that it should be "fewer people."
Like many rules, this one is a good candidate for bending (unless you happen to be a major news periodical). YMMV. -
Re:No matter how many times you say it.
I believe you are in the wrong message board. The grammar discussion board is here - http://www.grammarmudge.cityslide.com/grammardisc

Or according to your post, since "you" is not plural, I believe you is in the wrong message board. Oh I also wanted to ask, is it proper to use "is" or "are" when talking about fish?
PS - the "one or two other guys" are (or were seeing as they are dead) - John Entwistle and Keith "the Loon" Moon. (Kenny Jones also played drums after Moon's death.) -
Re:Oh I See!
Sometimes it's bad style, but it's not grammatically incorrect to end a sentence with a preposition. http://www.emich.edu/styleguide/prepositions.htm http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/cmosfa

..understand that, unlike in C, the closing punctuation mark in English comes before the final quote, not after.
That kinda weirded me out till I found this article: Punctuation Marks..
Turns out the US treats commas and periods differently than the rest of the world.. :)
Just to stay on topic, does anyone know if theres a standard for Wikipedia that deals with things like this? -
Re:NopeI believe that the simile is actually more literal. The metaphor is ostensibly literal, but we interpret it figuratively because we know that it isn't *really* meant to be taken literally. The simile, on the other hand, is to be taken absolutely literally, since it merely expresses similarity (rather than the figurative identity of the metaphor).
Also, since you seem to be a prescriptivist, I couldn't resist informing you of your incorrect use of 'hopefully.' See http://www.grammarmudge.cityslide.com/page/page/2

If you like Zim...
Most die-hard Zim fans probably know this, but if you're a fan of a show but not familiar with Jhonen Vasque's other work, you owe it to yourself to get ahold of a copy of Squee and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. The first is the more accessable and Zim-like; the second is Jhonen's quintisential work, but it is much darker and more philosophical. All his work is available from Slave Labor Graphics. (Avoid Fillerbunny and especially the Bad Art Collection; these are for die-hard fans only.)
