Re:I want to see Dave Bowman's Arm
Anyway, to get back on-topic...
I recently saw the movie in IMAX in the theaters when it was re-released late this summer. I was awestruck. As with other Kubrick movies, 2001 is packed to the gills with subtle details that goes over the head of pretty much all of the film critics. Take, for instance, the Illuminati symbolism Or take the flags/markings of several nations.. His screen caps can't even show these things well, but when I saw the movie again in the theater in 70mm, the German flag was clear as day.
70mm is actually higher res than 4k. So, some good will come out of 8k. -

long time overdue
This is not a surprise to anybody, that has already watched the movie analysis by Rob Ager: http://www.collativelearning.com/Starship%20troopers%20analysis.html
The guy nailed it back there, pretty obvious, but let's just say the world was in denial .... and in shock and awe from the bugs :))) -
Re:Houston Aeronautical Language
Kubrick said explicitly that HAL wasn't named after IBM, but there are a suspicious few references to IBM in the movie: http://www.collativelearning.com/2001%20chapter%208.html
